Bauchi State reshuffles cabinet as Hajiya Kango becomes Commissioner for the Ministry of Higher Education, reinforcing the administration’s commitment to merit and equity.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has sworn in Hajiya Hadiza Abdulkadir Kango as the new Commissioner for the Ministry Higher Education, marking a key appointment in his administration’s ongoing cabinet reshuffle.
The ceremony also saw four other officials inducted into strategic positions across the Bauchi State government, reflecting the governor’s focus on merit, inclusivity, and effective service delivery.
The swearing-in took place on Tuesday at the Council Chamber of the Government House in Bauchi. Hajiya Kango replaces Dr. Lydia Haruna Tsammani, who has been redeployed to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development.
This move follows the recent removal of Hajiya Zainab Baban Takko, highlighting the governor’s commitment to aligning personnel with strategic governance goals.
Other appointees sworn in alongside Hajiya Kango include Hajiya Jummai Salamatu Abubakar as Chairperson of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), Iliya Isa as Executive Chairman of Dambam Local Government Area, Babaji Idris Shehu as Auditor-General for Local Governments, and Abubakar Usman Misau as Permanent Commissioner of BASIEC.

Governor Bala Mohammed explained that these appointments were made to fill vacancies created by retirements, resignations, and the passing of previous officeholders. He emphasized that selections were made based on merit, experience, and the administration’s commitment to equity and inclusiveness.
During the ceremony, Governor Mohammed congratulated the appointees and urged them to uphold integrity, transparency, and accountability in their service. He warned against any abuse of office or prioritization of personal interests over public duty.
Special emphasis was placed on Hajiya Kango, the newly appointed Commissioner for the Ministry of Higher Education, to ensure her ministry aligns fully with the government’s educational policies.
The governor encouraged her to collaborate closely with her permanent secretary and other stakeholders to improve higher education standards, foster regional integration, and strengthen partnerships with federal and international institutions.
Hajiya Kango, in her acceptance remarks, thanked Governor Mohammed for the confidence placed in her.
She pledged to advance the ministry’s objectives, improve access to quality education, and work diligently to implement policies that promote excellence and innovation in the Bauchi State government’s higher education sector.
Speaking on behalf of the new officials, Abubakar Usman Misau expressed gratitude for the trust and promised that all appointees would demonstrate dedication, loyalty, and professionalism in executing their duties.
Political analysts have noted that the appointment of Hajiya Kango as Commissioner for the Ministry of Higher Education underscores the governor’s strategic approach to governance.
By positioning qualified and competent professionals in key ministries, the administration seeks to enhance service delivery, strengthen institutions, and ensure sustainable development in Bauchi State.
The cabinet reshuffle also highlights the administration’s focus on gender balance, institutional stability, and capacity building.
Hajiya Jummai Salamatu Abubakar’s appointment as BASIEC Chairperson and Dr. Lydia Haruna Tsammani’s redeployment to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development are seen as moves to reinforce effective governance and policy continuity.
Governor Mohammed concluded the ceremony by urging all appointees, especially Hajiya Kango as Commissioner for Higher Education, to remain accountable, deliver results, and foster a culture of integrity.
He emphasized that the ultimate measure of success would be the tangible improvements in the lives of citizens and the progress of the Bauchi State government’s development agenda.
The appointment of Hajiya Kango as Commissioner for Higher Education, along with the other key officials, is expected to strengthen governance, improve educational outcomes, and promote excellence across the state.
With these strategic appointments, the administration continues to demonstrate a commitment to meritocracy, transparency, and efficient service delivery.
