APC stakeholders in Ibadan North East demand equity and inclusion, urging fair representation rotation ahead of elections to strengthen unity and balance.
Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan North East have intensified calls for equity, unity, and inclusive political representation within the Ibadan North East/Ibadan South East Federal Constituency, as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the next election cycle.
The appeal, which emerged from a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held in Ibadan, reflects growing concern among party loyalists in Ibadan North East (IBNE) over what they describe as a persistent imbalance in the sharing of political opportunities within the constituency.
The stakeholders stressed that while the APC has maintained a strong foothold in the area, internal equity must be addressed to sustain long-term unity and electoral success.
According to the stakeholders, the APC in the constituency has enjoyed consistent support from both Ibadan North East and Ibadan South East (IBSE), but representation at the federal level has not been evenly distributed.
They argued that fairness and political stability can only be achieved when both sides feel adequately included in leadership positions.
A breakdown of representation since the return to democratic rule in 1999 was presented to support their claims.
The records show that IBSE held the seat from 1999 to 2007, with Hon. Adedeji K. Adeshile and Hon. T.O. Arapaja serving consecutively.
IBNE later assumed representation between 2007 and 2015 through Hon. Olusegun Akinloye and Hon. Abiola Ajaja.
However, since 2015, IBSE has retained control of the seat, currently occupied by Hon. Abass Agboworin, who is serving his second consecutive term.
Stakeholders noted that this pattern has resulted in IBSE dominating representation for a longer cumulative period, a development they believe contradicts the principles of fairness and inclusiveness that the APC stands for.

They emphasized that their demand is not rooted in division but in the need to strengthen internal democracy within the party.
Speaking on behalf of the group, several party leaders reiterated that the APC must lead by example in promoting balance and justice.

They maintained that the call for rotation is consistent with democratic values and would help prevent feelings of marginalization among party members in IBNE.
They also highlighted the strategic importance of Ibadan North East within the constituency.
According to them, IBNE boasts a large and active voting population that has consistently contributed to the APC’s electoral victories over the years.
In addition, the zone hosts critical economic centers such as Oje market, Iwo Road interchange, and Agodi Gate, all of which require stronger federal attention and representation.
The stakeholders argued that giving IBNE the opportunity to produce the next federal lawmaker would not only correct existing imbalances but also strengthen grassroots mobilization for the APC.
They stressed that inclusiveness would energize party supporters and foster a renewed sense of belonging among members.
Furthermore, they cautioned against allowing perceived dominance by one section to create discontent within the party.
According to them, political strength is best sustained through cooperation, mutual respect, and equitable distribution of opportunities.
The APC stakeholders also called on party leaders at the state and national levels to intervene and ensure that the principle of fairness is upheld in the selection of candidates.
They urged decision-makers to prioritize unity over individual interests, warning that failure to address the concerns raised could weaken party cohesion ahead of the elections.
“As we move closer to another political season, the APC must take deliberate steps to build trust among its members,” one stakeholder said.
“Equity is not a favor; it is a necessity for sustainable political growth.”
They further noted that the demand for inclusive representation aligns with broader democratic ideals, where every segment of society has a voice in governance.
According to them, the APC has an opportunity to reinforce its image as a party committed to justice and equal opportunity.
Observers say the development reflects a wider conversation within Nigerian politics about power rotation and zoning, particularly at sub-national levels.
For many party members, ensuring balance within constituencies is seen as a key factor in maintaining peace and unity.
The stakeholders concluded their statement by urging all members of the APC in the constituency to embrace dialogue and cooperation.
They emphasized that both Ibadan North East and Ibadan South East have a shared history and common goals, which should not be undermined by unequal representation.
They expressed optimism that party leaders would act decisively to address the issue, noting that restoring balance would ultimately benefit the APC and the constituency as a whole.
According to them, giving IBNE the chance to represent the constituency is not merely a political concession but a strategic move that would enhance stability, strengthen unity, and position the party for continued success.
