CAPE TOWN, South Africa, October 2, 2025 – The African Farmout Forum returned to the spotlight at African Energy Week (AEW): Invest in African Energies 2025, showcasing 25 farm-in opportunities across Africa’s expanding oil, gas, and clean energy landscape.
Sponsored by SOMA Oil & Gas and hosted in partnership with Moyes & Co., Envoi and FarmoutAngel, the forum brought together global investors, operators, and policymakers for a dynamic session of dealmaking and knowledge exchange.
Mike Lakin, Managing Director of Envoi Ltd., emphasized the forum’s role in connecting technical expertise with financial backing.
“Our goal is to immerse ourselves in every opportunity we present, providing clear and actionable information so partners can make confident investment decisions,” he stated.
African Farmout Forum Highlights
This year’s African Farmout Forum delivered a diverse mix of opportunities spanning frontier exploration, seismic acquisition, and development partnerships. Among the key highlights:
SOMA Oil & Gas (Somalia): Seeking partners for Blocks 129 and 192, part of a 10,000 km² acreage with multi-billion-barrel potential.
Meren Energy (Equatorial Guinea): Offering farm-out of 80% interest in gas-prone Blocks EG-18 and EG-31 near existing infrastructure.
Eco (Atlantic) Oil & Gas (South Africa): Preparing a farm-out for Block 1 in the Orange Basin, covering nearly 20,000 km².
Akata Energy (Nigeria): Targeting development partners to scale production from marginal fields on OML 95 to 40,000-50,000 bpd.
Tower Resources (South Africa): Presenting Algoa-Gamtoos license with nearly 2 billion barrels of recoverable resources identified.
Société Nationale des Hydrocarbures (Benin): Seeking operators for offshore Block 2 with 100% working interest on offer.
Cameroon National Hydrocarbons Corporation (Cameroon): Opening nine blocks for investment under the 2025 licensing round.
Apus Energy (Guinea-Bissau): Promoting the Sinapa and Esperança licenses, tied to the Atum-1X deepwater well.
These opportunities were reinforced by country-led showcases from Ghana, Namibia, Sierra Leone, Angola, and Guinea, signaling a broad continental appetite for new investment.
Driving Africa’s Energy Growth
The African Farmout Forum at AEW 2025 demonstrated that Africa is positioning itself not only as a global supplier of oil and gas but also as a hub for clean-energy solutions.
For instance, BiogasUnite presented its “Cash for Cooking” initiative aimed at scaling biogas adoption across Africa, reducing emissions, and creating new income streams.
By combining upstream oil and gas ventures with renewable and clean-energy projects, the forum reflected Africa’s pragmatic approach to balancing energy security with sustainability.
Roberto Blanco, CEO of Perceptum, reinforced this outlook, stating: “There is something here for every company portfolio.
Out of 118 exploration wells in Equatorial Guinea, 79 have demonstrated hydrocarbons. Yet the continent remains underexplored—farm-in agreements can change that.”
Investor Confidence and Global Collaboration
The African Farmout Forum drew interest from global energy players, including Chariot (Morocco), PetroQuest (Somalia, Seychelles, and Australia), and Prime Pakistan.
These companies are seeking partners to advance large-scale exploration campaigns and accelerate drilling programs scheduled for 2026 and beyond.
The forum also spotlighted fiscal and regulatory reforms in several African nations, which are improving investor confidence.
Nigeria, Angola, and Equatorial Guinea highlighted their ongoing tax and licensing adjustments, while Sierra Leone outlined progress on offshore exploration following its fifth licensing round.
Antonio Oburu Ondo, Equatorial Guinea’s Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mining Development, stressed that forums like this are crucial to unlocking Africa’s untapped potential.
“Farm-in agreements are more than transactions; they are pathways to long-term partnerships that benefit investors, host countries, and communities alike.”
A Platform for Sustainable Partnerships
The African Farmout Forum at AEW 2025 once again cemented its reputation as the premier platform for aligning Africa’s energy opportunities with global capital.
By presenting 25 diverse projects—ranging from frontier oil prospects to innovative clean-energy solutions—the forum showcased Africa’s readiness to attract partners who are committed to sustainable and impactful investment.
