The Super Eagles are set to hold two training sessions on Friday in Fes as they ramp up preparations for AFCON 2025, aiming to reclaim continental glory.
According to the Super Eagles media officer, Promise Efoghe, the team will train at 10:00 am and again at 6:00 pm, marking their first official practice in Morocco ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Efoghe explained that the schedule adjustment was due to the team’s late arrival from Cairo on Thursday, following their pre-tournament preparations in Egypt. “The boys are settled, and the coaching staff is ready to kick off the sessions,” he said.
Before touching down in Fes, the Super Eagles had spent days training and playing friendly matches in Cairo, focusing on their Group C opponents: Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania.
In a warm-up match against the host nation Egypt, the Super Eagles narrowly lost 2-1. Despite the defeat, the coaching staff emphasized lessons learned and adjustments needed for the tournament.
“This is a new beginning,” Efoghe said. “AFCON 2025 is a chance for the team to bounce back after missing out on the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification.”
Nigeria, three-time Africa Cup of Nations champions, last lifted the trophy in 2013 in South Africa. The Super Eagles are determined to end a 12-year wait for continental glory and give their fans a reason to celebrate.

Former head coach Jose Peseiro had guided the team close to the title in 2023, but they fell short, losing 2-1 to hosts Côte d’Ivoire in the final. The team is now under new management, seeking to build on past lessons.
Coach Peseiro’s philosophy focused on disciplined defensive play and quick transitions, elements that current staff aim to retain and enhance in AFCON 2025 preparations.
The first Friday session is expected to focus on tactical drills and light conditioning, while the evening session will prioritize set-pieces and match simulations, according to Efoghe.
Key players such as Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi, and Chukwueze are expected to feature prominently in both sessions, giving fans confidence in the squad’s readiness.
Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa, reflecting on the team’s arrival, said: “We are motivated and focused. Our aim is to give Nigeria the joy of another AFCON trophy. Every session counts.”
The team’s itinerary in Morocco is structured to optimize recovery and performance. Training in Fes offers cooler temperatures than Cairo, which should help with stamina and overall fitness.
Fans and analysts have praised the team’s preparation approach. Sports journalist Emeka Okoye noted, “Two sessions in one day show commitment. It’s about building cohesion and testing combinations before the tournament begins.”
The Nigerian Football Federation has expressed full support for the team’s Fes camp, emphasizing that proper preparation is key to lifting the AFCON 2025 trophy.
Efoghe added, “The boys are motivated, and the staff has everything in place. We know the competition will be tough, but our squad is ready to rise to the occasion.”
Analysts point out that Nigeria’s main rivals in Group C will include Tunisia, a team known for tactical discipline, Uganda, which relies on speed and physicality, and Tanzania, seen as an unpredictable opponent.
Veteran coach Samson Siasia commented, “The Super Eagles must strike a balance between experience and youthful energy. These training sessions are crucial for finalizing tactics and formations.”
During the 2023 AFCON, the Super Eagles displayed resilience but fell short in critical moments. Observers hope that lessons from that campaign will inform strategies in AFCON 2025.
Goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, who has been a standout performer in European leagues, emphasized the importance of communication and coordination during the training sessions. “We are building trust in defense,” he said.
The team’s medical and fitness staff have been working closely with players to ensure peak condition for the tournament, which is crucial in a compressed schedule with high-intensity matches.
Nigeria’s football fans are particularly excited about the Fes camp as it signals the start of the final countdown to AFCON 2025, with anticipation building for the opening games in Morocco.
Efoghe confirmed that the training sessions are closed to the public but that highlights and reports will be shared via official channels to keep fans engaged.
The Super Eagles’ preparation strategy includes friendly matches against local Moroccan sides before their first official group stage clash, providing an opportunity to fine-tune line-ups and test tactics under real match conditions.
With the Africa Cup of Nations being Africa’s premier football tournament, Nigeria’s management hopes that the two-session training strategy in Fes will build both physical endurance and mental sharpness.
Captain Ahmed Musa reiterated, “Our focus is unity, discipline, and determination. Every drill, every run, every session counts toward making Nigeria proud.”
Observers expect the team to spend the next few days intensively training, with rest periods strategically placed to maintain optimal energy levels ahead of their opening group match.
The Super Eagles have historically been strong starters in AFCON tournaments, but the coaching staff is stressing the importance of consistency across all group matches.
Efoghe noted, “AFCON 2025 is about more than skill. Mental toughness, adaptability, and teamwork will decide who lifts the trophy. Our two training sessions on Friday are part of building that edge.”

Veteran midfielder Wilfred Ndidi also highlighted the importance of strategy during practice: “Every session is about refining patterns and understanding each other better. We know the margin for error is very small.”
