Kabir Akanbi Takes Helm as Supreme Court’s Acting Chief Registrar
Prior to his appointment, Akanbi served as the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of the Election Petition Tribunal Unit at the Court of Appeal headquarters, Abuja.
Kabir Akanbi has been appointed as the Acting Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, effective from February 13, 2025. This appointment was approved by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, and announced in a press statement by Ahmed Umar, Deputy Director of Information and Public Relations of the Supreme Court.
Akanbi’s appointment comes after the retirement of Hajo Sarki Bello, who reached the mandatory retirement age of 60 years in public service. Akanbi brings over 20 years of experience in judicial administration, legal reforms, and public service to his new role.His background includes serving as the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of the Election Petition Tribunal Unit at the Court of Appeal headquarters in Abuja. Akanbi has made significant contributions to modernizing Nigeria’s judicial system and has played a key role in integrating technology-driven innovations into judicial process.
Akanbi’s educational qualifications include a law degree from the University of Ibadan, a Master’s degree in Law from Temple University in Philadelphia, and being a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and the Institute of Information Management, Africa ¹.The Chief Justice of Nigeria has urged Akanbi to apply his experience in legal practice, corporate advisory, and public service leadership to enhance the efficiency, transparency, and effectiveness of the Supreme Court.
