“Recently, President Trump declared that the US is re-evaluating its historic position in relation to the Malvinas,” Milei said during his address.
The comments have attracted considerable attention because the United States has historically recognised Britain’s administration of the islands while not taking a formal position on sovereignty.
Trump’s remarks have therefore been interpreted by Milei and his supporters as potentially opening a new diplomatic window for Argentina.
Trump Questions US Support For Britain
Trump was recently asked by British broadcaster GB News whether the United States would support Britain during a possible territorial confrontation with Argentina over the Falkland Islands.
He suggested that Washington’s position could be subject to review, while criticising Britain for not providing assistance during the conflict involving Iran.
Trump said Britain had not been available to help when he requested support, recalling that he had asked then-British prime minister Keir Starmer about sending ships.

The conflict reached its most dramatic point in 1982, when Argentine forces occupied the islands and Britain launched a military campaign to retake them.
