The Committee emphasized that the tragic loss of these officers is a stark reminder of the constant dangers faced by troops deployed in volatile regions.

Borno State, which has been at the forefront of Nigeria’s fight against insurgency and terrorism, remains one of the most challenging theatres of military operations.

The Senate Committee on Army praised the resilience of the Nigerian Army personnel, who continue to operate under extreme conditions to secure the lives and property of citizens.

“The sacrifice of these officers and soldiers reflects the highest standards of military service. Their military sacrifice is a testament to their commitment to the nation, and it serves as a reminder of the tremendous cost of freedom and security,” Yar’adua said.

He also urged Nigerians to honor the fallen by supporting the families of the deceased and recognizing the ongoing efforts of all military personnel deployed in difficult regions.

The Senate Committee on Army assured the Nigerian Army of continued legislative support, emphasizing that the welfare, training, and operational readiness of troops remain a top priority.

Yar’adua highlighted the importance of providing adequate resources, equipment, and medical care to ensure that troops can perform their duties effectively and safely.

He further stressed that support for the military is a shared responsibility, requiring both government intervention and public recognition.

In addition to legislative backing, the Committee committed to advocating for improved welfare packages for the families of fallen soldiers.

“These heroes have left a legacy of courage and dedication. It is our duty to ensure that their families are well-supported, and that the military sacrifice of their loved ones is honored,” Yar’adua said.

The Committee also called on the Federal Government to expedite compensation, benefits, and assistance to bereaved families, highlighting that timely support can alleviate some of the burdens caused by these tragic losses.

The Senate Committee on Army further prayed for divine comfort for the families of the deceased. Yar’adua said: “We ask Almighty Allah to grant eternal rest to the souls of the fallen and to strengthen the hearts of their families.

“May their military sacrifice not be in vain and may their memory inspire us all to work towards a safer and more prosperous Nigeria.”

Beyond condolences, the Committee also used the occasion to highlight the critical role of the Nigerian Army in maintaining national peace and security.

Yar’adua praised the professionalism and dedication of soldiers across all units, particularly those stationed in conflict zones like Borno State, where risks are exceptionally high.

He noted that the Senate Committee on Army will continue to work closely with military leadership to ensure operational effectiveness and morale among the troops.

“The bravery and resilience displayed by our troops, even in the face of grave danger, is nothing short of extraordinary. Their military sacrifice underscores the importance of consistent support, not only from the government but also from society as a whole,” he added.

Yar’adua emphasized that national development cannot be achieved without the protection and empowerment of the armed forces, noting that military personnel are central to the country’s security architecture.

The Senate Committee on Army also reiterated its commitment to legislative oversight to guarantee that the Army is equipped with the necessary resources and infrastructure to tackle evolving security threats.

Yar’adua stated that the National Assembly remains fully committed to ensuring that military policies prioritize troop welfare, compensation, training, and operational readiness.

Highlighting the enduring impact of the military sacrifice of fallen soldiers, the Committee urged all Nigerians to remember that the security enjoyed by citizens comes at a cost.

“The loss of Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Saidu Paiko and his comrades is a reminder of the daily challenges faced by the Nigerian Army in protecting our nation. Their courage and military sacrifice should serve as a model for future generations,” Yar’adua said.

The statement concluded by reaffirming the Committee’s unwavering solidarity with the Nigerian Army and all military families affected by conflict.

Yar’adua called on citizens to support the troops through recognition, encouragement, and advocacy for improved welfare programs.

“May the souls of the fallen soldiers rest in peace. Their dedication, bravery, and military sacrifice will forever remain a guiding light for a safer, stronger, and united Nigeria,” he added.

Through this act of condolence, the Senate Committee on Army has not only mourned the loss of heroes but also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that the sacrifices of the Nigerian Army are recognized, appreciated, and supported at all levels of governance and society.

The Committee concluded by urging Nigerians to uphold the legacy of these heroes by contributing to a culture of security, peace, and national unity.
