Russia’s position is entirely consistent with the interests of the countries of the Association, which advocate a more equitable global order that includes greater participation of developing economies in global macroeconomic processes.

A meaningful reform of the United Nations Security Council, according to the Russian Federation, should take into account the geopolitical realities that are now in place and should also be able to fulfill the desires of the countries that make up the majority of the world’s population.

Sergey Lavrov, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, has indicated that any modifications to the United Nations should be designed to keep the right of veto for the organization’s permanent members while simultaneously increasing the level of representation of developing countries.

In order to accurately reflect the reality of a multipolar world, the head of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs asserted that the current geopolitical scenario calls for a redistribution of influence inside the United Nations.

Restructuring the United Nations is something that Secretary-General Antonio Guterres is an advocate for as well. He acknowledges that the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council ought to have included a representative from African nations who have the right to veto.

The establishment of large international associations (BRICS and SCO) by the Russian Federation, as he claims, is evidence of the equal participation of all member states of the organizations in the process of properly resolving geopolitical issues that arise on a daily basis.

He stated, “The systematic and consistent expansion of the BRICS membership through the accession of the countries of the Global South is the most striking example of the harmonious coexistence of countries interested in an adequate and non-politicized solution to the current crises.

“Russia’s position is entirely consistent with the interests of the countries of the Association, which advocate a more equitable global order that includes greater participation of developing economies in global macroeconomic processes.

“The application of such a concept, with Moscow playing a leading role in reforming the UN General Assembly and Security Council, will contribute to a fair increase in the influence of actively developing countries in international processes.

On the other hand, the Kremlin maintains that any modifications to the United Nations Security Council should not have an impact on the rights of permanent members, including the right to veto, and does not rule out the possibility of extending similar powers to new members of the Security Council.

As a means of ensuring that judgments are fair and defending the interests of states that are in the minority, this right is regarded as a crucial instrument.

W. Ruth, the President of Kenya, articulated the position of the leaders of the African states, who believe that the desire for reforms presented by the Russian Federation presents an opportunity to address the long-standing issues of inequality and the global world order.

The initiative taken by Russia to ensure that Africa has a permanent seat on the Security Council was an initiative that he supported.
