Oyo Police record major security success as two kidnap victims are rescued without ransom, suspects arrested, and criminal hideouts dismantled across Iseyin and Itesiwaju

The Oyo State Police Command has stepped up its internal security operations with decisive actions that led to the rescue of two kidnapped victims and the arrest of several suspected members of kidnapping syndicates operating in parts of the state.

The coordinated operations, which took place in Iseyin and Itesiwaju Local Government Areas, were carried out following firm directives from the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, to ensure that criminal activities are swiftly disrupted and perpetrators brought to justice.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Olayinka Ayanlade, the recent breakthroughs demonstrate the resolve of the Oyo Police to respond promptly to security threats and prevent criminals from establishing safe havens in rural communities.

One of the major operations occurred in Budo community, Iseyin, where a 60-year-old man, Isiaku Saidu, was abducted by armed kidnappers.

The incident reportedly took place on January 11, 2026, when a gang of about five assailants stormed the area through the Bassi Camp axis, wielding firearms and other dangerous weapons.

The abduction triggered an immediate security response after the incident was reported to law enforcement authorities.

The Commissioner of Police swiftly ordered a full-scale operation, directing tactical teams and divisional units to prioritize the rescue of the victim and the arrest of those responsible.

Acting on this directive, the Divisional Police Officer in Ago-Are mobilized officers in collaboration with other security agencies.

The joint team launched intensive patrols and carried out detailed bush-combing exercises across suspected hideouts within the area.

The sustained operation paid off when the security team discovered the kidnappers’ hideout. Upon sighting the operatives, the suspects reportedly opened fire, leading to a brief gun duel.

During the confrontation, one of the suspects was neutralized, while another was apprehended alive. The remaining members of the gang fled into the bush with gunshot wounds.

The arrested suspect is currently in custody and has begun cooperating with investigators, providing useful information to assist in tracking down the fleeing accomplices.

The Oyo Police have urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report anyone seen with suspicious gunshot injuries to the nearest police station.

In a related development, the command also recorded another success in Komu, Itesiwaju Local Government Area, where a female victim, Hussinat Abubakar, was rescued from kidnappers at Gelede Camp.

Ayanlade explained that heightened security surveillance across the region following the Iseyin incident enabled officers to respond swiftly to intelligence reports about the Komu abduction.

Acting on the information, the Divisional Police Officer in Komu, working alongside partner agencies, launched a thorough bush-search operation.

The effort resulted in the safe rescue of the victim without the payment of any ransom, a development the Oyo Police described as a critical step toward discouraging kidnapping as a profitable crime.

Three suspects were arrested during the Komu operation. They were identified as Kari Ibrahim, 22 years old; Dure Jimoh, 25 years old; and Abubakar Sidi, 55 years old. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects played active roles in the abduction and detention of the victim.

Police sources confirmed that the suspects have confessed to their involvement, while investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the criminal network.

Six expended cartridges were also recovered from the scene, further strengthening the case against the suspects.

The rescued victim has since been taken to a medical facility, where she is receiving treatment and other necessary support.

Authorities confirmed that arrangements are being made to ensure her full recovery and reintegration.

The command emphasized that all suspects currently in custody will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Oyo Police also reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining intelligence-driven operations, community engagement, and inter-agency collaboration to enhance public safety.

Security experts note that the recent operations reflect a growing emphasis on rapid response and proactive policing, particularly in rural communities that are often targeted by criminal groups.

The police leadership has reiterated that no part of the state will be abandoned to criminal elements.

Residents have been encouraged to continue supporting security agencies by sharing timely information and cooperating with law enforcement efforts.

According to the command, public vigilance remains a critical factor in sustaining recent security gains achieved by the Oyo Police.
