The Imole Campaign Council has expressed confidence that Governor Ademola Adeleke will secure victory in the ongoing Osun governorship election, citing what it described as overwhelming support from voters across the state.
The council, in a statement issued by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said the large turnout of voters supporting the Accord Party had strengthened its belief that Adeleke would win the election by a wide margin.
The campaign council commended residents of Osun State for what it described as their confidence in the governor and their continued support since voting commenced.
According to the council, the level of support recorded at polling units across the state has reinforced its optimism about Adeleke’s chances of retaining the governorship.
The council, however, raised concerns over alleged incidents of intimidation, vote-buying and unlawful arrests during the election.
It alleged that some officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC), allegedly working with security personnel, had deployed tactics aimed at influencing voters and disrupting the electoral process.
The Imole Campaign Council said its situation room had received several reports, some accompanied by video footage, alleging incidents of vote-buying and intimidation in different parts of Osun State.
It specifically alleged that some APC officials were offering voters between N25,000 and N50,000 in exchange for their votes.
The council appealed to voters to reject such inducements, arguing that accepting money in exchange for their votes could undermine their long-term interests and the future development of the state.
It urged voters to remain focused on the election and cast their ballots according to their choice.
The campaign council also alleged that unauthorised soldiers had been deployed to arrest and detain some Accord Party campaigners while voting was still ongoing.
It described the alleged deployment as unacceptable and said such actions, if established, would undermine public confidence in the electoral process.
The council further called on voters and election observers to closely monitor developments at polling units and report any incidents capable of compromising the credibility of the election.
It also urged security agencies to remain professional, impartial and committed to protecting voters and ensuring that citizens are allowed to exercise their franchise without intimidation.
The council maintained that the election should be determined by the votes of Osun residents rather than by alleged coercion, inducement or the use of security personnel to influence voters.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke is more than confident of winning this election with a wide margin,” the council said, attributing the optimism to the support it claimed the governor had received from voters across the state.
The council further appealed to residents to remain peaceful throughout the voting, counting and collation processes.
As voting continues, attention is expected to shift to the counting and collation of results from polling units, wards and local government areas across Osun State.
The final outcome will be determined by the votes officially recorded and announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
GOVERNOR ADEMOLA ADELEKE WILL WIN THIS ELECTION WITH WIDE MARGIN
Going by the overwhelming support and confidence of the good people who showed up in large number to vote for Accord Party, Governor Ademola Adeleke is more than confident of winning this election with a wide margin.
The Imole Campaign Council commends the good people of Osun State for the vote of confidence in the governor and for the reassuring support since the beginning of voting.
The TICC also urges the good people of Osun State to resist the intimidation, vote-buying and unlawful arrest orchestrated by the All Progressives Congress in connivance with security agents.
That said, we have received scores of reports from our situation room, with video evidence, detailing how the APC deploy anti-democratic tools of vote buying, unlawful arrest and intimidation against voters across Osun State.
Precisely, we have reports of massive vote-buying where APC party officials offer voters N50,000 and N25,000 to get harvest their votes.
We urge the people of Osun State not to trade away their future for peanuts and vote in Governor Ademola Adeleke for the growth and development of our dear state.
We also note the perplexing deployment of unauthorised soldiers by the APC to arrest and detain Accord Party campaigners across the state even whilst voting was ongoing. This is unacceptable and embarrassing to the gallant officers of the Armed Forces.
We call on our people to monitor the election process and continue to reject APC's militarisation of the governorship election.
