The Oluremi Tinubu Empowerment Programme has brought renewed joy and economic relief to 500 women in Edo State, each receiving ₦50,000 to boost their small-scale businesses.
The initiative, implemented under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) and supported by the Tony Elumelu Foundation, reflects the First Lady’s commitment to advancing women empowerment in Edo and across Nigeria.
Speaking at the ceremony in Benin City, the First Lady of Nigeria and wife of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, reaffirmed her belief that empowering women strengthens families, communities, and the nation at large.
Represented by Mrs. Edesili Okpeholo Anani, the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady in Edo State, she urged the beneficiaries to use the funds wisely to grow their businesses and achieve long-term financial stability.
“This is not a loan; it is a grant — a seed of renewed hope to help you recapitalise your businesses,” Senator Tinubu said.
“When you empower a woman, you empower a household, a community, and indeed, a nation.”
Senator Tinubu disclosed that the Tony Elumelu Foundation support has been instrumental in expanding the Oluremi Tinubu Empowerment Programme across Nigeria.
The Foundation contributed ₦1 billion to the Renewed Hope Initiative, funding the empowerment of 18,500 women nationwide.
Each state and the Federal Capital Territory will benefit from 500 women receiving ₦50,000 each to strengthen their small-scale businesses and create sustainable livelihoods.
The collaboration between the Renewed Hope Initiative and the Tony Elumelu Foundation highlights how public-private partnerships can address poverty, enhance entrepreneurship, and improve social welfare.
The initiative aims to ensure that women entrepreneurs, especially those in rural and semi-urban areas, gain access to capital and business opportunities that enable them to thrive.
Among the beneficiaries, Otaru Patience described the grant as a blessing that would enable her to restock her shop and increase income for her family.
“This support came at the right time,” she said, expressing gratitude to Senator Oluremi Tinubu and the Oluremi Tinubu Empowerment Programme for their kindness.
Another recipient, Adesuwa Obasogie, appreciated the gesture but appealed for the amount to be increased in future editions due to rising costs of goods and inflation.
She commended the First Lady’s compassion and urged other leaders to emulate her focus on grassroots empowerment.

Mrs. Inumidune praised the Oluremi Tinubu Empowerment Programme, noting that it represents hope for many women struggling to sustain their businesses.
She described it as a practical step toward achieving women empowerment in Edo, adding that the First Lady’s vision aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals on poverty eradication and gender equality.
