Nigeria Customs Service seizes 49,500 litres of petrol at Badagry station, cracking down on illegal fuel diversion and protecting public safety nationwide.

Operation Whirlwind, the NCS special task force for Zone ‘A’, intercepted 1,980 jerricans of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), each containing between 25 and 30 litres, totaling 49,500 litres.

Investigations revealed that staff at the filling station were allegedly transferring petrol into plastic kegs, intending to transport the fuel illegally across borders.
During the raid, a suspect identified as Adeola Ismail was apprehended and taken into custody.
The suspect was later granted administrative bail pending further investigations by the Federal Operations Unit (FOU Zone A).
The operation formed part of a week-long surveillance and enforcement campaign by Operation Whirlwind, which also resulted in the seizure of seven vehicles used as conveyances, with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦80,452,000.
According to the National Coordinator of Operation Whirlwind, Assistant Comptroller General Kola Oladeji, the seizures were the culmination of seven weeks of intelligence gathering and monitoring of known smuggling corridors.
“The illegal petrol was carefully concealed and was being prepared for export to the Republic of Benin,” Oladeji told reporters in Lagos.
He further explained that multiple flashpoints were monitored, including Badagry, Owode-Apa, Ajilete, Ijoun, Ilaro, Owode Idiroko, Eree, Ado-Odo, and Obada Imeko in Ogun State.
