The Kogi 2026 Budget has been passed by the State Assembly, approving ₦820.49bn for development, governance, and capital projects across ministries.
The Kogi State House of Assembly has officially passed the Kogi 2026 Budget, approving a total expenditure of ₦820,490,585,443 for the 2026 fiscal year.

The development marks the conclusion of weeks of legislative scrutiny, consultations, and budget defence sessions involving ministries, departments, and agencies of government.
The approval followed the adoption of the report presented by the House Standing Committee on Appropriation, Budget Monitoring and Economic Planning.
Lawmakers, sitting as the Committee of Supply, examined the bill clause by clause before its final passage, signaling broad consensus among legislators on the proposed financial framework for the state.
Speaking during the plenary, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, provided a detailed breakdown of the Kogi 2026 Budget, noting that over ₦365.43 billion has been allocated for recurrent expenditure.
This portion is expected to cater for salaries, pensions, overheads, and the routine running of government institutions.
In contrast, capital expenditure received a larger share of the budget, with ₦455.46 billion earmarked for infrastructure development, public works, education, healthcare, and other growth-driven projects.
According to the Speaker, this reflects the Assembly’s support for policies aimed at stimulating economic expansion and improving the living conditions of residents.
Rt. Hon. Yusuf explained that the budget clearly outlines allocations to all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), ensuring transparency and accountability in public spending.
He emphasized that the Kogi 2026 Budget is structured to align with the state’s development priorities while addressing critical socio-economic challenges.
The Speaker further stated that the appropriation law will take effect from January 1, 2026, and remain valid until December 31, 2026.
This timeline, he said, would allow for early implementation of projects and programmes once the executive arm commences execution.
Commending his colleagues, Rt. Hon. Yusuf praised lawmakers for their dedication, discipline, and patriotism throughout the budget process.
He noted that the peaceful and thorough consideration of the budget demonstrates the maturity of the legislative institution and its commitment to good governance.
He also expressed appreciation to the Clerk of the House, deputy clerks, management staff, and legislative aides for their behind-the-scenes contributions.
The Speaker extended similar gratitude to members of the press and civil society organisations, whose monitoring and engagement, he said, strengthened public confidence in the budget process.
Assuring stakeholders of the Assembly’s resolve, Rt. Hon. Yusuf said lawmakers would continue to pursue reforms that strengthen institutional processes and improve working conditions within the legislature.
He expressed optimism that the effective implementation of the Kogi 2026 Budget would translate into tangible benefits for citizens across the state.
The passage of the appropriation bill effectively concludes the legislative phase of the budget cycle, paving the way for implementation by the executive arm of government.
Attention is now expected to shift to project execution, fiscal discipline, and performance monitoring in the coming year.
Observers believe that the size and structure of the Kogi 2026 Budget reflect the administration’s ambition to deepen development efforts while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
With a significant portion allocated to capital projects, expectations are high that infrastructure deficits will be addressed, particularly in roads, healthcare facilities, schools, and rural development.
It will be recalled that Governor Usman Ododo presented the ₦820.49 billion appropriation bill to the Kogi State House of Assembly on December 2, 2025.
During the presentation, the governor outlined his administration’s vision for inclusive growth, improved service delivery, and economic stability.
As implementation begins in 2026, residents and stakeholders will be watching closely to see how effectively the Kogi 2026 Budget translates policy intentions into measurable development outcomes.
Analysts note that timely release of funds and strict adherence to budgetary provisions will be key to achieving the goals outlined in the spending plan.
