Nigeria’s suspected Ebola index patient was reportedly evacuated from Abuja aboard a medical jet, but authorities have yet to confirm the operation.

A reported medical evacuation at Abuja’s Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport has raised questions about the whereabouts of a woman identified by a media outlet as Nigeria’s Ebola index patient.

ARISE News reported that a specialised aircraft was prepared to transport the woman out of Nigeria early Monday, October 26, amid heightened attention surrounding the country’s Ebola situation.

The operation was reportedly conducted at the airport’s private aviation section, where access was restricted as emergency vehicles and diplomatic representatives arrived.

According to the news organisation, its team at the General Aviation Terminal captured images of a convoy of three vehicles moving into the restricted area.

The convoy reportedly included ambulances, diplomatic vehicles and a vehicle associated with an international agency.

The media outlet also said it obtained footage of a medical evacuation aircraft and personnel making preparations for the passenger’s departure.

Sources cited by ARISE News indicated that the flight was expected to leave at approximately 6 a.m.

However, the report did not establish the aircraft’s destination or provide independently verified details of the passenger’s medical condition.

The woman was described by the outlet as the wife of a Swiss diplomat based in Nigeria. Her alleged connection to the Ebola case, however, remains unconfirmed by an official statement cited in the report.

The reported evacuation has attracted attention because of the combination of medical transport arrangements, ambulances and restricted access to the airport facility.

ARISE News further reported that a source indicated the Federal Government intended to disclose details of the operation after the aircraft had departed Nigerian airspace.

Nevertheless, the circumstances surrounding the reported flight remain unclear. There has been no confirmation in the report establishing whether the woman had tested positive for Ebola Virus Disease or whether the evacuation was directly linked to the country’s public health response.

The identity of the passenger, her destination and her current condition are also yet to be officially established.

As of the time of filing this report, an official confirmation from the Federal Government or relevant health authorities was not included in the information made available by the news outlet.

The reported development leaves several questions unanswered, particularly concerning the nature of the medical emergency and the reasons for the decision to transport the passenger outside Nigeria.

Further clarification from the appropriate authorities would be necessary to establish the facts surrounding the operation.
