Israeli strikes in Southern Lebanon kill two in latest ceasefire violation

Israeli strikes in Southern Lebanon resulted in the death of two civilians while others were injured after an Israeli drone struck a car marking the latest violation of the United States-brokered ceasefire.

An Israeli drone fired a missile at a car in Toul, Nabatieh district, killing two people and injuring two others. Smoke rose as locals rushed to help.

The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health confirmed the fatalities but gave few details about the injured. The attack occurred a day after multiple airstrikes across Lebanon.

Israeli warplanes targeted eastern mountain areas and southern towns, claiming to strike Hezbollah facilities. Witnesses described panic as homes shook, smoke rose, and families fled the danger zones.

The Israeli military stated it targeted a “military camp” and “precision missile production site.” Abbas Hassan Karky, allegedly Hezbollah logistics commander, was also reportedly killed in the strike.

Hezbollah has not confirmed any deaths or responded officially to Friday’s drone attack, maintaining silence on casualties while emphasizing resistance against Israeli incursions.

Lebanon’s National News Agency reported an airstrike on Marjayoun’s Kroum al-Marah district. No casualties occurred there, though residents reported significant property damage and trauma from explosions.

Earlier Thursday, Israeli strikes in Bekaa killed two people. Later, Arabsalim attacks killed an elderly woman and another civilian, highlighting repeated ceasefire violations across southern Lebanon.

Israel still maintains forces at five border outposts, despite the ceasefire requiring withdrawal. This ongoing military presence increases tensions and undermines regional security in southern Lebanon.

The United States-brokered ceasefire ended a year of hostilities with Hezbollah in November. Israel’s repeated violations, however, threaten the truce’s stability and risk renewed escalation in the region.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has repeatedly asked the U.S. and France to intervene. He cited the mounting civilian toll and called for measures to restrain Israeli airstrikes.

Last month, after a deadly drone attack killed five people including three children, Aoun pressed Washington to increase pressure on Israel to comply with the ceasefire.

Israel claims its operations focus on Hezbollah infrastructure and missile development. Critics argue strikes often harm civilians and violate international humanitarian law, raising global concerns.

Local officials in Nabatieh described the attacks as destabilizing. “Civilians are caught in the crossfire, and repeated bombings make daily life unbearable,” said one Lebanese authority representative.

Residents of southern towns like Ej Jarmaq described the ongoing fear, destruction, and displacement caused by repeated Israeli airstrikes. Families struggle to rebuild homes and livelihoods.

International observers and UN experts repeatedly call for investigations into Israel’s violations. They warn continued airstrikes may reignite full-scale conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, increasing regional instability.

Humanitarian agencies report that repeated airstrikes block aid delivery and reconstruction. Every new attack delays assistance, increasing suffering among civilians in southern Lebanon already living in fear.

The attacks have destroyed homes, schools, and medical facilities. Residents now rely on temporary shelters as emergency teams struggle to provide food, water, and healthcare for displaced families.

Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem has rejected Lebanon’s government’s accelerated disarmament plan, citing Israeli strikes as justification for retaining weapons for defense against ongoing incursions.

Lebanese authorities had pledged to disarm Hezbollah by the end of 2025. Continued Israeli attacks make implementing this plan extremely difficult, slowing progress toward long-term regional stability.

Repeated violations disrupt economic activity, particularly in agriculture and trade. Farmers report damaged crops, while merchants face uncertainty due to the ongoing military presence and risk of further strikes.

Children and elderly are especially affected by the attacks, experiencing trauma from explosions and smoke. Schools and healthcare facilities struggle to function amid repeated Israeli strikes.

The international community remains divided. Some countries stress Israel’s right to self-defense, while others condemn attacks on civilians and call for stronger ceasefire enforcement measures.

Southern Lebanon has historically been a conflict zone between Israel and Hezbollah. Without intervention, analysts warn that repeated airstrikes could spiral into a wider regional confrontation.

Civil society groups call for urgent action to protect civilians. “The attacks must stop. International authorities should hold Israel accountable for repeated breaches of the truce,” said a Lebanese activist.

Residents describe a constant cycle of fear, rebuilding, and displacement. Many fled their homes temporarily after Friday’s drone strike, adding to the hundreds already displaced by previous attacks.

Local hospitals are under strain, with medical teams treating casualties from multiple airstrikes. The health system faces shortages of supplies and personnel in southern Lebanon.

The strikes highlight a broader geopolitical struggle. Israel justifies operations as targeting Hezbollah military assets, while Lebanon accuses Israel of aggression and violating international law repeatedly.

The humanitarian crisis worsens as aid convoys face delays. Organizations warn that children and vulnerable populations will suffer the most if attacks continue without intervention.

Experts warn that continued Israeli operations undermine Lebanon’s efforts to maintain national security and stability. Repeated violations threaten the fragile peace achieved by the ceasefire in November.

Without diplomatic enforcement, airstrikes could escalate into open conflict again. Regional actors are closely monitoring the situation, though international response has been largely limited and ineffective.

Lebanon continues to push for diplomatic intervention. President Aoun and his government urge the U.S. and European nations to pressure Israel into full compliance with the ceasefire.

The drone strike in Toul underscores ongoing tensions. It comes amid repeated Israeli claims of targeting Hezbollah, while Lebanese civilians continue to bear the brunt of military actions.

As southern Lebanon endures the repeated strikes, residents express growing frustration and fear. Many describe their lives as dominated by the threat of sudden aerial attacks.

Observers stress that ending Israeli violations is crucial for humanitarian protection. Without international pressure, civilians will continue to face risks, while reconstruction and recovery remain stalled indefinitely.

The current situation reflects the fragile nature of the ceasefire. Repeated violations demonstrate how quickly peace agreements can erode without robust monitoring and accountability mechanisms.

Analysts emphasize that Israel’s military operations are not isolated incidents. They are part of a broader strategy targeting Hezbollah infrastructure, yet they repeatedly impact noncombatants in southern Lebanon.

Lebanon’s southern communities face both physical and psychological consequences. Trauma, displacement, and destruction shape daily life, and residents struggle to maintain normalcy amid ongoing Israeli airstrikes.

The international community’s failure to enforce the ceasefire raises concerns over future escalations. Without intervention, southern Lebanon remains at high risk of further military attacks.

Ultimately, repeated strikes highlight the need for diplomatic action. Strengthening the ceasefire, monitoring compliance, and protecting civilians remain urgent priorities for Lebanon, Israel, and the international community.
