Ikeja, Ojodu APC leaders intensify grassroots efforts for membership drive

APC leaders in Ikeja and Ojodu intensify grassroots mobilisation as party stakeholders push digital membership registration to strengthen democracy.

The Deputy Majority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Adedamola Kasunmu, has called on leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC)7 in Ikeja Constituency II and Ojodu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) to intensify grassroots mobilisation as the party accelerates its digital membership drive.

Kasunmu made the call during an appraisal and sensitisation meeting held in Ikeja and Ojodu, which brought together party executives, elected officials, ward leaders, and other stakeholders.

The meeting was convened to review progress made so far, identify operational challenges, and chart a clear path for expanding party membership through APC e-registration.

According to Kasunmu, the gathering marked the beginning of a sustained engagement process designed to strengthen party structures at ward and community levels.

He stressed that a strong grassroots foundation remains the backbone of any successful political party and noted that digital innovation must be matched with active community outreach.

He explained that the introduction of APC e-registration is part of a broader effort to modernise the party’s operations, promote transparency, and improve internal democracy.

By digitising membership records, the APC aims to eliminate duplication, ensure credible data management, and give every registered member a stronger sense of belonging and recognition within the party.

To demonstrate his commitment to the success of the initiative, Kasunmu donated four tablet devices and two printers to support seamless registration across wards.

He also provided ₦2.5 million to assist with logistics, coordination, and other operational needs associated with the exercise.

The lawmaker urged ward and council executives to take ownership of the process by mobilising residents in their respective communities.

He emphasised that registration centres alone would not achieve the desired impact, calling instead for door-to-door sensitisation and direct engagement with residents, especially young people.

Kasunmu also acknowledged the support of a federal lawmaker, Hon. Abiodun Faleke, whom he described as a consistent ally in efforts to strengthen the APC in Ikeja and Ojodu.

He said collaboration among leaders at different levels remains critical to achieving long-term party stability and electoral success.

The event attracted a wide range of party leaders and government officials, including the APC Chairperson in Ojodu LCDA, Mrs Stella Kokumo; councillors; ward executives; and the APC Chairman in Ikeja Local Government Area, Alhaji Adekunle Dally-Adeokun.

Their presence, Kasunmu noted, reflected a shared commitment to party growth and unity.

In her remarks, Mrs Kokumo praised Kasunmu for his leadership style and generosity, describing his support as timely and impactful.

She said the donated equipment and funds would go a long way in addressing immediate challenges faced by registration teams at the grassroots.

However, she appealed for additional support to tackle emerging issues, particularly those related to logistics and volunteer coordination.

According to her, sustaining enthusiasm among field workers is essential for the success of APC e-registration, especially in densely populated communities.

Another stakeholder, Mrs Mabel Soremekun of Ojodu LCDA, highlighted operational challenges that could slow down the registration process if not urgently addressed.

She identified unstable internet connectivity, inadequate welfare packages for volunteers, and limited mobility as key concerns requiring attention.

She stressed that resolving these issues would improve efficiency and encourage more residents to participate in APC e-registration, particularly youths who are already familiar with digital platforms but may be discouraged by technical delays.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Hon. Akeem Dauda, described the meeting as a rallying point for party leaders to renew their commitment to grassroots engagement.

He urged executives to move beyond formal meetings and actively engage residents in markets, motor parks, religious centres, and neighbourhood gatherings.

Dauda noted that women, youths, traders, and organised groups such as unions remain central to the APC’s electoral strength.

He said the current registration drive presents an opportunity to reconnect with these stakeholders and ensure they are fully integrated into the party’s structure.

According to him, APC e-registration aligns with the Renewed Hope agenda by creating opportunities for broader political participation and inclusion.

To encourage ward-level mobilisation, Dauda announced a donation of ₦250,000 to each ward in Ikeja Local Government Area.

On his part, the APC Chairman in Ikeja LGA, Alhaji Adekunle Dally-Adeokun, said the meeting focused on setting realistic targets for increasing party membership through digital registration.

He disclosed that party leaders agreed on the need to intensify efforts and adopt more flexible strategies.

Dally-Adeokun explained that registration activities would now include weekends, covering Saturdays and Sundays, to accommodate residents who may be unavailable during weekdays.

He expressed confidence that with sustained commitment, the party would meet and surpass its membership targets.

The sensitisation session also featured the APC Vice Chairman, Prince Ranti Olufon, and other LGA executives who echoed calls for unity, discipline, and hard work among party members.

They stressed that strengthening internal structures remains essential for the party’s long-term relevance.

Councillors representing Ikeja Wards A, B, D, and E were also in attendance, including the Leader of the House, Hon. Rasheed Ogunseye; his Deputy, Hon. Shakira Jinadu; Hon. Idris Salami; and Hon. Tunde Folami. They pledged continued support for grassroots mobilisation efforts within their wards.

Proceedings at the event were coordinated by the Chairman of Ward A, Alhaji Saheed Ekundayo, who emphasised the need for cooperation among ward leaders to ensure the success of the ongoing exercise.

As the APC continues to expand its digital membership base, party leaders expressed optimism that sustained grassroots engagement, combined with technology-driven initiatives, would strengthen internal democracy and position the party for future electoral contests.
