Governor Inuwa Yahaya launches N2.2 billion Gombe education support to empower students and families through scholarships and AGILE cash transfer initiatives.

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has reinforced his administration’s commitment to human capital development through an extensive Gombe education support initiative worth over N2.2 billion.

The intervention, unveiled at the Government House, Gombe, aims to empower students, uplift vulnerable families, and strengthen the state’s education sector through targeted scholarships and cash grants.

Speaking during the symbolic cheque presentation, Governor Yahaya explained that the fund includes N1.5 billion in scholarship payments to 18,750 students of Gombe origin studying in tertiary institutions across Nigeria and an additional N726 million for conditional cash transfers and scholarship grants to 12,101 beneficiaries under the World Bank–supported AGILE (Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment) programme.

The governor stated that the Gombe education support initiative reflects his administration’s belief in education as a foundation for sustainable development. He emphasized that by investing in students, the government is investing in the architects of Gombe’s future.

“Our investment in education is an investment in the builders of tomorrow’s Gombe State,” Yahaya declared.

“We are giving our students and their families the confidence and means to stay in school, excel, and contribute productively to society.”

According to Yahaya, the programme’s objective is to reduce the financial strain on parents, promote school enrolment, and prevent student dropouts, especially among children from less privileged backgrounds.

The recent 100 percent increase in scholarship allowances, he added, is a testament to his administration’s unyielding commitment to education as the bedrock of progress and innovation.

Governor Yahaya noted that education remains the most powerful instrument for social change and poverty eradication.

He said the Gombe education support programme is not just a policy intervention but a long-term investment designed to build a knowledgeable, skilled, and self-reliant generation.

The governor described the initiative as part of a broader vision of “bridging generations through purposeful leadership and targeted social investment.”

The partnership with the World Bank through the AGILE project, Yahaya explained, has greatly strengthened the state’s capacity to deliver quality education.

The AGILE initiative focuses on empowering adolescent girls, reducing early school dropouts, and providing financial support to keep young women in school.

The governor expressed appreciation to the World Bank, local education authorities, and community stakeholders for their collaborative efforts in improving access to learning and transforming Gombe’s education landscape.

He urged all beneficiaries to take full advantage of the opportunity by prioritizing their education and striving for academic excellence.

“This is not a gift, but a trust,” Yahaya said. “We expect beneficiaries to use this support responsibly and become role models for others. Education is the greatest equalizer, and its benefits go far beyond the classroom.”

The Gombe education support programme also complements the government’s broader education reform agenda, which includes school renovation projects, teacher recruitment, provision of modern learning materials, and the establishment of digital learning platforms.

These initiatives, the governor noted, are critical for creating an inclusive and technologically driven education system capable of producing globally competitive graduates.

Community leaders, parents, and stakeholders present at the event praised the Yahaya administration for its visionary approach to educational development.

Many described the Gombe education support initiative as a life-changing intervention that will ease the financial burden on families and give young people renewed hope for the future.

Several beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the governor, promising to make judicious use of the funds to advance their academic pursuits.

Governor Yahaya reiterated that his administration would continue to monitor the progress of beneficiaries to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.

He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to equity and merit in all scholarship and social investment programmes.

“Every child in Gombe deserves an equal opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed,” he said.

“We are building a society where education is not a privilege but a right accessible to all.”

He concluded by emphasizing that the Gombe education support initiative represents more than financial assistance—it symbolizes hope, opportunity, and transformation.

Through it, his administration seeks to nurture a generation of educated, innovative, and self-reliant citizens who will propel Gombe State into a future of economic growth and social stability.

“Our ultimate goal,” Yahaya affirmed, “is to empower our youth with the tools they need to shape their destinies and contribute meaningfully to the progress of Gombe. Education is the bridge to that future, and we are committed to ensuring that no one is left behind.”

As the N2.2 billion disbursement reaches thousands of families across the state, the Yahaya administration continues to set a benchmark in education-focused governance.

By combining strategic partnerships, targeted investment, and inclusive policy reforms, Gombe is steadily positioning itself as one of Nigeria’s most education-driven states—where knowledge, empowerment, and opportunity converge to define the next generation.
