Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has urged opposition politicians to shelve their individual aspirations and rally behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
Speaking on Monday during a political rally held in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital, Governor Aiyedatiwa emphasized that President Tinubu’s leadership remains vital for the nation’s progress. He declared that all 23 governors elected under the banner of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are fully behind Tinubu’s second-term bid.
“The project for the continuation of the Renewed Hope Agenda beyond 2027 has already taken root in the South West,” Aiyedatiwa affirmed. “We, the APC governors, are united in our resolve to ensure President Tinubu returns to office and continues delivering transformational leadership to Nigerians.”
Governor Aiyedatiwa was in Ekiti to show support for his counterpart, Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji (BAO), whom he praised as a visionary and committed leader. He commended Oyebanji’s administration for its impactful governance, noting that the people of Ekiti State are fortunate to have a leader of his caliber.
“Ekiti is lucky to have someone like BAO as governor,” he said in a statement issued to journalists in Akure after the event. “The developmental strides across the state are evident and commendable. From roads to education, healthcare, and youth empowerment, his projects speak volumes. He deserves a second term to consolidate on these gains.”
Governor Aiyedatiwa urged Ekiti residents to give Oyebanji another mandate, emphasizing the importance of continuity in governance to ensure stability and sustained progress.
In a rallying call to APC members and supporters, he urged them to work collectively to ensure the party wins across all 16 local government areas of Ekiti State in the forthcoming elections. He pointed to the APC’s performance in the 2024 gubernatorial election in Ondo State—where the party secured victory in all 18 local councils—as a benchmark that should inspire similar results in Ekiti.
“This is the time for strategic unity and hard work,” he said. “Let’s replicate what we achieved in Ondo here in Ekiti. With focus and commitment, a landslide victory for the APC is within reach.”
The rally in Ado-Ekiti served both as a show of strength for the APC in the South West and as an early indication of the party’s strategy heading into the 2027 elections. It underscored the growing momentum behind President Tinubu’s re-election and Governor Oyebanji’s second-term bid as key priorities for the ruling party.
