FCT police launch probe as woman dies after meal with boyfriend

FCT Police have opened a probe into the mysterious death of 27-year-old Esther Akwaji, who collapsed while eating at her boyfriend’s residence in Dei-Dei.

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has commenced an in-depth investigation into the mysterious death of a 27-year-old woman, Esther Akwaji, whose sudden collapse and demise at her boyfriend’s residence in Dei-Dei have raised serious questions and public concern.

The incident, which occurred within the Bwari Area Council of the FCT, has triggered a manhunt for the deceased’s boyfriend, who reportedly fled shortly after the tragedy.

Esther, who was said to be a resident of Nasarawa State, had traveled to Abuja to spend time with family members.

Relatives disclosed that she arrived in good health and showed no signs of illness before the incident.

On January 21, she reportedly informed members of her household that she was heading out to a bank in the Dei-Dei area and would return later in the day. That was the last time her family saw her alive.

Several hours after she left home, concern began to grow when Esther failed to return or respond to calls.

The anxiety deepened when a man later contacted the family using Esther’s mobile phone.

He reportedly identified himself as her boyfriend and explained that Esther had come to visit him instead of going to the bank as earlier stated. According to the caller, he had bought food for them to eat together.

Sources familiar with the case revealed that while the couple was eating, Esther suddenly began to feel unwell and started vomiting.

The boyfriend allegedly claimed that he immediately rushed her to Kubwa General Hospital in an attempt to save her life.

Sadly, medical personnel at the facility confirmed that she was already dead on arrival.

The unexpected turn of events further intensified suspicions surrounding the mysterious death.

Hospital sources said the man appeared visibly shaken at first but reportedly disappeared from the premises shortly after doctors pronounced Esther dead.

His sudden departure, without completing necessary hospital or police procedures, has become a major point of interest for investigators.

Since then, he has remained unreachable, and his identity has not yet been officially established by the authorities.

Confirming the incident, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, stated that the Command had opened a full-scale investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the mysterious death.

She explained that Esther’s body had been deposited at a mortuary for a comprehensive autopsy, which would help determine the actual cause of death.

According to the police spokesperson, preliminary findings are still inconclusive, and investigators are carefully piecing together events leading up to the incident.

Statements are being taken from family members, hospital staff, and residents of the area where the boyfriend lives.

“We are treating this matter with the seriousness it deserves,” SP Adeh said, adding that the police would not rule out any possibility until forensic results are available.

Community members in Dei-Dei have expressed shock over the incident, describing Esther as a young woman with no known history of health complications.

Some residents called on law enforcement agencies to ensure that justice is served and that anyone found culpable is brought to book.

The mysterious death has also reignited conversations about the need for prompt reporting and thorough investigation of sudden deaths, especially those involving close acquaintances.

Family members of the deceased have demanded answers, insisting that Esther left home hale and hearty.

They have appealed to the police to intensify efforts to locate the fleeing boyfriend and clarify his role in the incident.

According to the family, closure can only come when the truth behind the mysterious death is fully uncovered.

As investigations continue, the police have urged members of the public with useful information regarding the suspect’s whereabouts or the events of that day to come forward.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring the public that the outcome of the autopsy and investigations would guide the next line of action.
