The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for Nkanu West Constituency in the 2027 Enugu State House of Assembly election, Ifeanyi Nnamani, has expressed confidence that the party will make significant electoral gains across Enugu State, attributing the expected success to the performance of Governor Peter Mbah.

Nnamani made the assertion during a media interaction in Enugu, where he discussed his political ambition, his plans for Nkanu West and the growing political influence of the APC in the state.

According to the candidate, the achievements recorded by the Mbah administration in various sectors have changed public perception of the APC and created a stronger foundation for the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

He maintained that APC candidates would not have to struggle excessively to convince voters because, in his assessment, the governor’s performance had already given the party a strong selling point.

“There is no single candidate under the APC that will struggle to win the 2027 elections, because Governor Mbah has delivered 101 per cent across board. He has positioned APC, projected it and marketed it to the people,” Nnamani said.

His confidence comes as the APC seeks to strengthen its presence in a state where the party has historically faced strong competition from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Nnamani, however, argued that the political calculations in Enugu were changing. He said residents were increasingly assessing politicians based on their individual records, policies and ability to deliver meaningful development, rather than voting strictly along traditional party lines.

He described Governor Mbah as a major vehicle through which the APC was seeking to redefine its political fortunes in Enugu, saying the administration’s activities had helped expose residents to the party’s programmes and philosophy.

Nnamani outlines plans for Nkanu West

Beyond the wider political contest, Nnamani said his immediate priority would be to secure a mandate that would allow him to address practical challenges confronting people in Nkanu West.

He outlined a four-point agenda focusing on social intervention, healthcare, agriculture and education.

The APC candidate said his proposed programmes would not be limited to making promises during campaigns.

Rather, he intends to use legislative instruments, including bills, motions and oversight activities, to push issues affecting his constituents to the appropriate authorities.

He also spoke about the importance of collaboration with government agencies, private organisations and other stakeholders in implementing projects that could have a direct impact on residents.

Nnamani said his interest in representing the constituency was rooted partly in his previous experiences in business, labour and community-based humanitarian activities.

According to him, those experiences have given him an understanding of the difficulties faced by ordinary people, particularly residents who often struggle to access basic services and opportunities.

“I know what people are suffering and what people are passing through. I really know the real concerns of my people, of common people, and I believe if I can have the chance to represent them, I can push those concerns to a conclusion,” he said.

Healthcare intervention

Healthcare is one of the areas Nnamani identified as requiring continued attention at the grassroots.

He commended the state government for its investments in healthcare but said there was still a need to ensure that the benefits of government policies reached communities directly.

The candidate said his proposed constituency healthcare interventions would complement the governor’s programmes rather than operate independently of them.

He disclosed that his involvement in humanitarian activities and free medical outreach programmes did not begin with his decision to contest the election.

“I’ve been doing free medical outreach for over a decade now. I’ve been involved in many charity cases. This is something we do out of passion, out of drive, and as a way of giving back to the society,” he said.

He explained that his experience in such activities had exposed him to the difficulties faced by vulnerable residents and strengthened his desire to pursue a political platform through which he could advocate for broader solutions.

Landlord-tenant concerns

Nnamani also identified the relationship between landlords and tenants as an issue he would seek to address through legislative intervention if elected.

He said some residents were affected by unfair or exploitative practices in the housing sector and that government needed to maintain a balance between protecting tenants and respecting the legitimate interests of property owners.

He promised to sponsor a motion that would draw attention to the matter and seek measures capable of creating a fairer relationship between both sides.

For him, effective representation should go beyond attending legislative sittings. He said lawmakers must remain connected to the everyday experiences of their constituents and use their positions to draw government attention to issues affecting the people.

Legislative independence

Nnamani also addressed the possibility of working closely with Governor Mbah if elected.

He said cooperation with the executive would be necessary to attract development to Nkanu West but insisted that such cooperation would not compromise his constitutional responsibilities as a legislator.

According to him, a lawmaker can maintain a constructive relationship with the executive while still questioning policies or demanding accountability when necessary.

“Partnership does not negate the fact that you still have to stand on what is right. There is a part of oversight functions, and it requires making sure what is passed in the budget is being implemented to the letter,” he said.

He added that proper oversight would be particularly important in ensuring that projects and programmes approved for the constituency were implemented as intended.

Appeal to Nkanu West voters

Nnamani urged residents of Nkanu West to remain hopeful and focused as the 2027 election approaches.

He appealed to voters not to allow political disagreements or opposition campaigns to distract them from what he described as the broader objective of developing the constituency.

The candidate also promised to establish a constituency office that would remain accessible to residents throughout his tenure if elected.

According to him, the office would provide a platform through which constituents could present their challenges, make requests and communicate directly with their representative.

“My message to my good people of Nkanu West is for them to be hopeful, not to be distracted and to continue supporting our governor,” he said.

Nnamani further appealed to voters to support APC candidates across the various positions in the 2027 elections, expressing confidence that the party would not disappoint them.

He also predicted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would help improve the APC’s fortunes in Enugu State, arguing that the performance of Governor Mbah had already contributed to greater visibility and acceptance for the party.

As the 2027 political season draws closer, Nnamani believes the APC can turn its growing presence in Enugu into electoral victories.

He maintained that the combination of government performance, stronger party structures and candidates capable of connecting with voters would give the party a significant advantage at the polls.

For the Nkanu West candidate, however, the election is not only about winning a political contest. He said his primary objective is to secure a mandate that would allow him to turn the concerns of residents into concrete legislative action and make representation more accessible to the people.
