The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied a report by BBC News Pidgin regarding the arrest of social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
The report claimed VDM was arrested over multiple petitions and would be released once bail conditions were met.
However, the EFCC took to its social media handles to counter the report, labeling it “fake news.” EFCC posted a screenshot of the BBC News Pidgin report alongside another individual’s post, without providing further details about the actual reason for VDM’s arrest or detention.
According to the report, Oyewale stated, “We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations raised against him by some petitioners.
“We will release him when he meets the bail conditions and we will take the case to court as soon as possible we are law-abiding.”
IREPORT247NEW had reported that the Nigerian police in Abuja have detained VeryDarkMan, at the behest of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank).
This follows Otse’s public outcry over what he claims to be unauthorised withdrawals from his mother’s bank account.
VeryDarkMan was upset that his mother’s bank account had been repeatedly debited for loan repayments.
