Delta Police recorded major breakthroughs after arresting four suspected kidnappers and robbers in separate operations, recovering a firearm.

The Delta State Police Command has intensified its offensive against criminal activities across the state, leading to the arrest of four suspected kidnappers and armed robbery suspects in separate operations carried out by security operatives.

The successful operations, which involved intelligence gathering, community participation, and collaboration with local vigilante groups, further highlight ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to improve Delta State security and curb violent crimes.

According to information released by the command through its spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, the arrests were made in different locations following actionable intelligence and reports from concerned residents.

The operations also led to the recovery of a locally fabricated firearm believed to have been used or intended for criminal activities.

The latest development has been described as another significant achievement for the Delta Police as security agencies continue to strengthen surveillance and intelligence networks across communities in the state.

One of the operations took place within the jurisdiction of the Ugborikoko Division, where officers responded to a report involving two suspects linked to an attempted robbery incident.

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects allegedly gained unauthorized access to a residential compound.

However, his plans were disrupted when he discovered that occupants were present within the premises. Fearing arrest or confrontation, the suspect reportedly attempted to flee the area.

His suspicious movement attracted the attention of vigilant residents who immediately raised an alarm. Community members quickly mobilized and apprehended the suspect before he could escape.

A second suspect believed to be connected to the incident was also arrested shortly afterward.

The two suspects were subsequently handed over to police operatives for further investigation.

Acting on intelligence obtained during questioning, officers of the Delta Police conducted a search of the suspects’ residence. During the operation, detectives discovered a locally made pistol hidden inside a wardrobe.

Security sources noted that the recovery of the firearm may provide investigators with valuable evidence regarding the suspects’ activities and possible links to other crimes committed within the area.

Police authorities stated that investigations remain ongoing and that detectives are working to determine whether the suspects have connections to other armed robbery incidents reported in recent months.

In another operation, officers attached to the ‘A’ Division in Ughelli, working closely with members of a local vigilante group, arrested two suspected kidnappers believed to be connected to a failed abduction attempt.

The incident that triggered the investigation reportedly occurred on June 19, when a group of criminals attempted to kidnap their target but failed to complete the operation.

Following the incident, security operatives launched a coordinated manhunt to track down those involved. Their efforts eventually paid off on June 22 at about 8:30 p.m. when two suspects emerged from a nearby forest settlement.

The suspects, identified as 16-year-old Iliyasu Hassan and 32-year-old Idris Abdulkarim, were reportedly attempting to purchase food and medication when security personnel intercepted and arrested them.

According to police findings, the suspects had allegedly been hiding in the forest after the failed operation in an effort to avoid arrest.

During the course of the investigation, a victim who had previously experienced a kidnapping incident reportedly identified the suspects as members of the gang responsible for his abduction.

The identification provided investigators with additional leads and strengthened the case against the suspects.

The Delta Police said both men remain in custody while efforts continue to locate other members of the criminal gang. Detectives are also working to recover weapons and other operational tools allegedly used by the group.

Security analysts have repeatedly emphasized that kidnapping and armed robbery remain major challenges in several parts of the country.

However, they also note that stronger cooperation between residents and security agencies has played an important role in improving crime detection and prevention.

The recent arrests demonstrate how community support can significantly enhance the effectiveness of law enforcement efforts. In both operations, information provided by residents and local security volunteers contributed directly to the successful outcomes.

Reacting to the arrests, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended residents for their vigilance and commitment to supporting security agencies.

He praised the growing collaboration between communities, vigilante groups, and the Delta Police, describing it as a critical factor in the ongoing fight against criminal activities.

The commissioner encouraged members of the public to continue sharing credible and timely information with security agencies whenever they notice suspicious movements or activities within their communities.

According to him, intelligence supplied by residents often helps security personnel respond more effectively and prevent crimes before they occur.

CP Oyeniyi further reassured residents that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property throughout the state.

He stated that the Delta Police would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing strategies, strengthen community engagement, and pursue criminal elements wherever they operate.

As investigations continue, authorities remain optimistic that additional arrests may be made and that more criminal networks operating within the state will be dismantled.

The latest success reinforces the determination of the Delta Police to sustain pressure on kidnappers, armed robbers, and other criminal groups, while ensuring safer communities for residents across Delta State.
