Habeeb Okikiola, known as Portable, a street-hop artist, has been sentenced to three months in prison for resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer by a Chief Magistrate Court in the Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Nevertheless, the court granted him the opportunity to pay a sanction totalling ₦30,000.
A video of Portable attacking a police inspector and blocking cops who were trying to serve him an arrest warrant went viral in March 2023, leading to his imprisonment.
The event took place at Okeosa, Ilogbo, within the Ifo Magisterial District, on November 18, 2022, at approximately 11:00 a.m., according to Inspector Olumide Awoleke, the police prosecutor.
A felony attack, punishable by Section 517 of the Ogun State Criminal Code Law, 2006, was allegedly plotted by Portable and other unidentified individuals, according to the charge sheet.
Section 351 of the same legislation was allegedly violated by the musician as he was also accused of unlawfully assaulting one Osimosu Emmanuel Oluwafemi.
A Yamaha H55 studio monitor, an AKG P420 condenser microphone, and a Studio 2 interface connection cable were among the musical instruments that Portable was said to have stolen multiple times in 2022, in violation of Sections 384, 383, and 390 of the Criminal Code of Ogun State.
Portable was found guilty on Counts 1 and 2 by Chief Magistrate Babajide Ilo, who delivered the decision. He received a month’s jail time plus a ₦10,000 fine for Count 1, and two months for Count 2, with a ₦20,000 fine.
