A Sweden-based Nigerian political scientist, Kio Amachree, has formally petitioned President Bola Tinubu, calling for the immediate removal and investigation of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, over alleged federal interference and destabilisation in Rivers State.

The petition, dated February 8, 2026, was submitted through the Chief of Staff at Aso Rock and copied to top security and anti-corruption agencies, including the Attorney-General of the Federation, the National Security Adviser, the Inspector-General of Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Titled “Formal Petition, Demand for Investigation, and Notice of Consequences,” the document describes the action as “a formal petition and a written notice of serious national concern,” presented “in the interest of peace, stability, constitutional order, and justice in Rivers State and the Niger Delta.
Amachree emphasised that he was acting independently, stating, “I do not belong to any political party. I have no political ambition. I have no ties to any Nigerian politician. I am not writing on behalf of any political group.”
He added, “I am writing because the current federal posture in Rivers State is dangerous, provocative, and unnecessary.”
Amachree, who introduced himself as a political scientist educated at Eton College, England, and the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania, USA, highlighted his professional background, including senior executive roles at the American corporate headquarters of Philip Morris USA.
He currently serves as President of Worldview, a political science and global affairs platform, and President of SKJ Records Sweden, while residing in Stockholm.
The petitioner explained that his intervention is based on “professional competence, international exposure, and global networks,” stressing that “this is not a letter written in ignorance or emotion.”
He also referenced his family’s historical role in the Niger Delta, noting that his late father, Chief Godfrey Kio Jaja Amachree, QC, served as Nigeria’s first indigenous Solicitor-General and Acting Attorney-General, among other national and international responsibilities.
Highlighting growing instability in Rivers State, Amachree warned that federal actions are exacerbating tensions.
“Rivers State is being pushed toward instability by federal conduct and political interference,” he wrote.
He clarified that “Rivers State is not Boko Haram territory. Rivers State is not bandit territory. Rivers State is not an insurgency theatre,” adding that “Rivers people are being treated as though they are enemies of the state.”
The Niger Delta, he said, is “Nigeria’s economic backbone,” and he cautioned that it is “reckless for Abuja to manufacture political crisis in Rivers State.”
A major focus of the petition is the call for the removal of Wike from federal office.
“Mr Nyesom Wike must be removed from federal office immediately and investigated,” Amachree wrote. He alleged that Wike’s continued presence in federal power represents “a destabilising influence in Rivers State and a serious national concern.”
The petition further calls for anti-corruption agencies to investigate allegations of corruption, diversion of public funds, abuse of office, and unexplained wealth.
Amachree demanded “a full audit and accountability” covering luxury vehicles, overseas properties, alleged corporate proxies, and financial trails, asserting that “the Nigerian public deserves to know the source of this wealth.”
The petition also references a widely circulated recording, allegedly showing Wike threatening violence against a political opponent.
“There exists a recording widely circulated in the public domain, including on TikTok and other platforms, alleged to show Mr Wike threatening to kill a political opponent,” Amachree wrote.
He questioned law enforcement authorities, asking, “Why has Wike not been arrested, interrogated, or formally investigated for alleged threats of murder when the recording is widely available?” He warned that “selective justice destroys nations.”
Amachree criticised the deployment of federal security resources in Rivers State, arguing that they should instead focus on areas experiencing terrorism and banditry.
“Nigeria’s security resources should be focused on genuine terror threats,” he wrote, urging authorities to deploy them to “the North-East” and “the North-West” rather than “militarise Rivers State for political advantage.”
He emphasised that “Rivers State is a producing region, not an enemy zone,” reinforcing the notion that federal interference is unnecessary and counterproductive.
The petition also raised justice concerns over the killing of Amachree’s cousin, Miss Ibyami Amachree, allegedly by a soldier.
He demanded identification of the soldier, disclosure of the unit’s chain of command, release of investigative findings, and prosecution “where evidence supports prosecution.”
He warned that “a nation that permits impunity in uniform manufactures future instability,” linking it to the broader political crisis in Rivers State.
Amachree further cautioned that ignoring the petition could lead to international attention.
“If this letter is ignored, I will use lawful channels and international connections to escalate these concerns,” he stated, adding, “Nigeria’s reputation cannot withstand another Niger Delta crisis manufactured by arrogance, corruption tolerance, and political manipulation.”
In a forceful conclusion, he urged President Tinubu not to disregard the petition. “Do not ignore this letter,” he wrote.
“The Niger Delta is not a colony. Rivers State is not a pawn. And the people of Rivers are not fools.”
He warned that continued political manipulation and disrespect could provoke a crisis, emphasising, “History has warned Nigeria before. This matter must be addressed immediately.”
