Saraki commissions Adamawa road project, praises Fintiri’s infrastructure drive

Former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has commissioned the newly completed Federal Housing Estate road network constructed by the Adamawa State Government, describing the initiative as a practical demonstration of responsive governance and people-oriented leadership.

The project, widely referred to as the Adamawa road project, is located within the Federal Housing Estate in Girei Local Government Area and represents a significant upgrade of internal access roads and drainage infrastructure within the growing residential community.

Executed under the administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the development includes a network of paved roads supported by reinforced concrete drains, culverts and a 3.5-kilometre stormwater drainage system designed to manage surface runoff and curb flooding.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony on Monday, Dr. Saraki commended Governor Fintiri for what he described as consistency in infrastructure delivery and a clear focus on projects that directly improve the lives of ordinary citizens.

He noted that the Adamawa road project reflected deliberate planning and commitment to long-term development rather than short-term political gains.

According to the former Senate President, infrastructure remains a critical driver of economic growth, social interaction and improved quality of life, adding that well-executed road projects such as the one in Girei enhance mobility, boost property value and create opportunities for small businesses to thrive.

He praised the governor’s leadership style, describing him as a man of integrity who has maintained a people-first approach to governance.

Dr. Saraki, who also reflected on his longstanding relationship with Governor Fintiri, urged residents of Adamawa State to continue supporting the present administration.

He stressed that sustained public support was essential for government policies and programmes to yield maximum impact, particularly in areas of infrastructure and service delivery.

In his address, Governor Fintiri explained that the commissioning marked more than the completion of a road project.

He said the Adamawa road project symbolised his administration’s governance philosophy, which prioritises accountability, results and service to the people.

According to him, infrastructure development remains one of the strongest tools for addressing social inequality and stimulating economic activities at the grassroots level.

The governor noted that the project would ease daily movement within the Federal Housing Estate, reduce travel time and improve safety for residents, especially during the rainy season.

He added that the improved drainage system would significantly minimise flooding, which had previously posed challenges to residents and damaged properties in the area.

Governor Fintiri recalled that the project was flagged off in May 2024 after several assessments identified long-standing access and mobility challenges within the estate.

He said the decision to prioritise the project was informed by repeated concerns raised by residents and the need to align infrastructure development with the rapid expansion of the area.

Reaffirming his administration’s resolve, the governor stressed that all awarded projects across Adamawa State would be completed as planned.

He reiterated his zero tolerance for abandoned projects, describing unfinished infrastructure as a waste of public resources and a betrayal of public trust.

According to him, completing projects remains central to building confidence between the government and the people.

Governor Fintiri further assured residents that the Adamawa road project was part of a broader infrastructure renewal agenda spanning roads, healthcare facilities, schools and water supply systems across the state.

He maintained that no community would be marginalised in the development process, pledging that future projects would continue to be executed with diligence, transparency and a strong sense of responsibility.

The event also featured goodwill messages from key stakeholders and community leaders.

The Chairman of Girei Local Government Area, Adamu Dallatu, commended the state government for responding to the infrastructural needs of the area, noting that the project would improve mobility and attract further development.

Similarly, the member representing Girei Constituency in the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Abubakar Abdullahi, described the Adamawa road project as a timely intervention that would positively impact residents and stimulate local economic activities.

Traditional leaders, including the District Head of Girei and the Abandoma of Adamawa, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Musa, praised the state government for engaging communities and delivering quality infrastructure.

Other dignitaries at the ceremony, including Halilu Hammamjoda, also applauded the governor’s commitment to infrastructure development and urged residents to protect the project to ensure its long-term sustainability.
