Ooni of Ife commends Nigeria Immigration Service for digital passport reforms, border management, and modernisation under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), has commended the Federal Government for its transformative policies in migration management, digitalisation of passport services, and adoption of cutting-edge technologies at the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).

The revered traditional ruler made the remarks during a visit to the NIS headquarters in Abuja to renew his diplomatic passport.
He was received by the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Mrs. Kemi Nandap, alongside members of her senior management team.
The visit provided an opportunity for the Ooni to witness firsthand the impact of recent reforms on service delivery and institutional efficiency.
According to NIS spokesman Akinsola Akinlabi, the Ooni expressed deep appreciation for the government’s continuous efforts to modernise the agency and strengthen border governance across the country.
“The Ooni of Ife, Oba Ogunwusi (Ojaja II), yesterday visited the Nigeria Immigration Service headquarters for the renewal of his diplomatic passport.
“He was warmly received by the Comptroller-General and her management team,” Akinlabi said in a statement released in Abuja.
During the visit, Oba Ogunwusi praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing strong leadership and support for reforms that have positively impacted the Nigeria Immigration Service.
He also lauded the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for championing initiatives that have improved service delivery, enhanced operational efficiency, and positioned the agency as a model for other government institutions.
“The first-class monarch took the opportunity to commend the President and the Minister of Interior for their commitment to transformational policies under the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Akinlabi stated.
“He also acknowledged the leadership of the Nigeria Immigration Service for ensuring that these reforms are successfully implemented.”
Oba Ogunwusi’s visit highlighted several key developments within the Nigeria Immigration Service, including the digitalisation of the passport application and renewal process.
The move has significantly reduced processing times, improved security, and enhanced the overall experience for Nigerians seeking travel documentation.
Furthermore, the Ooni praised the integration of advanced technology in migration management.
From biometric data capture to electronic verification systems, the Nigeria Immigration Service has adopted tools that not only streamline operations but also ensure robust border security.
These innovations, he noted, reflect the government’s commitment to modernisation and efficiency in public service.
The monarch also commended the agency’s efforts to strengthen border governance, noting that secure and well-managed borders are vital for national security, trade facilitation, and international cooperation.
By enhancing operational capacity and introducing technology-driven solutions, the Nigeria Immigration Service has made significant strides in addressing challenges related to human trafficking, irregular migration, and cross-border crimes.
In his remarks, Oba Ogunwusi emphasized the importance of continued support for institutional reforms.
“It is heartening to see that the Federal Government is committed to not just policy formulation but also effective implementation.
“The Nigeria Immigration Service is now better equipped to serve Nigerians and visitors alike,” the Ooni said.
The visit also underscored the growing recognition of the Federal Government’s efforts to reposition the Nigeria Immigration Service through modernisation initiatives.
By adopting digital solutions, enhancing service delivery, and ensuring accountability, the agency is steadily transforming into a world-class immigration institution.
Akinlabi added that the Ooni’s commendation reflected wider public approval of the agency’s performance.
“The Ooni of Ife’s praise is a testament to the positive changes occurring at the Nigeria Immigration Service.
“It signals public confidence in the agency’s ability to manage migration efficiently and securely,” he noted.
The Nigeria Immigration Service, under the leadership of Comptroller-General Nandap, has been at the forefront of implementing reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Key focus areas include digital passport services, improved border management, institutional capacity building, and enhanced citizen engagement.
By visiting the agency personally, the Ooni of Ife has reinforced the importance of leadership recognition in driving institutional success.
His visit sends a strong message to other public service agencies about the value of embracing reform, technology, and innovation in delivering critical services to the Nigerian populace.
