Ogunbayo urges citizens to prioritise voter registration for 2027 elections

As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, Oluwatobi John Ogunbayo, an aspirant for the House of Representatives seat representing Ibadan North-West/South-West Federal Constituency, has called on Nigerians to prioritise obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

In a statement made available to journalists, Ogunbayo emphasised that active participation in the electoral process remains the most effective way for citizens to shape the nation’s future.

He urged eligible Nigerians, particularly young people and first-time voters, to take advantage of the voter registration process when it resumes and ensure they are fully prepared to exercise their civic rights in 2027.

According to him, the strength of Nigeria’s democracy depends largely on the willingness of citizens to engage in lawful and peaceful political participation.

He noted that while public discourse and social commentary are important, meaningful change can only be achieved through the ballot.

“Every Nigerian who desires progress must understand that the power to determine leadership lies in the voters card.

“I encourage all eligible citizens to go out and register and ensure they collect their PVCs ahead of the 2027 elections,” Ogunbayo stated.

The Ibadan-born politician stressed that voter apathy has, in past elections, affected turnout in several constituencies, thereby limiting the influence of certain communities.

He therefore appealed to residents of Ibadan North-West and Ibadan South-West, as well as Nigerians nationwide, to avoid complacency and actively prepare for the next electoral cycle.

Beyond the general call for voter registration, Ogunbayo also addressed members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, particularly those who have yet to complete their electronic membership registration.

He observed that some party members have been unable to finalise their e-registration due to the absence of a National Identification Number (NIN).

He urged such members to take immediate steps to secure their NIN to enable them to regularise their membership status within the party’s digital database.

“Party membership registration is crucial for internal democracy and proper coordination.

“I encourage all APC members in Oyo State who are yet to complete their e-registration due to lack of NIN to quickly obtain it and register without delay,” he said.

Ogunbayo explained that accurate membership records would strengthen the party’s structure at the grassroots and enhance effective mobilisation ahead of future elections.

He noted that as political competition intensifies, strong party organisation would be essential in ensuring cohesion and electoral success.

In addition, the aspirant directed a message to members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, a support group aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

He called on them to intensify mobilisation efforts in support of the President’s policies and programmes.

He urged the group to sensitise communities on what he described as the achievements and reform initiatives of the Tinubu-led government, adding that sustained engagement at the grassroots would be critical to consolidating support ahead of 2027.

“To the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, this is the time to deepen mobilisation efforts. Engage communities, speak about government initiatives, and encourage people to participate actively in the democratic process,” Ogunbayo said.

The aspirant maintained that sustained political awareness campaigns would not only boost voter turnout but also strengthen democratic institutions across the country.

He added that peaceful political participation, respect for the rule of law, and active citizenship are key ingredients for national development.
