NSCDC security measures protected Abuja headquarters during protests, safeguarding citizens, critical assets, and preventing vandalism nationwide.
The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has strongly condemned the invasion of its National Headquarters in Abuja by more than 50 protesters on Monday.
The Corps described the incident as unacceptable, emphasizing that the demonstrators ignored repeated warnings to stay away from NSCDC facilities and other critical national assets.
These events prompted immediate action and heightened vigilance, with NSCDC security measures deployed to ensure the safety of citizens and infrastructure.
NSCDC Spokesman Babawale Afolabi explained that the protesters forcefully entered the headquarters chanting various slogans.
“The actions of these protesters are entirely condemnable and contrary to the law. Their intrusion into our premises posed a significant risk to the security of personnel and the public,” Afolabi said.
The Corps stressed that such behavior could be exploited by unscrupulous individuals seeking to disrupt public order.
Prior to the incident, the Commandant General of the Corps, Prof. Ahmed Audi, had issued strict warnings to all NSCDC Commands and Formations regarding potential unrest planned for October 20, a day marked by supporters of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

In response, Prof. Audi mandated the implementation of enhanced NSCDC security measures to safeguard citizens, critical infrastructure, and government assets.
The NSCDC security measures included strategic deployment of personnel, intelligence gathering, and real-time monitoring of potential protest areas across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and other states.
Afolabi stated, “Our Commands and Formations were instructed to upscale security protocols to protect the nation’s critical infrastructure and prevent vandalism by hoodlums or unauthorized actors attempting to hijack lawful gatherings.”
Intelligence operatives were actively engaged to identify threats to lives and property. The deployment of security personnel aimed to neutralize risks posed by violent protesters or groups that could exploit peaceful demonstrations for unlawful purposes.
The NSCDC emphasized that these security measures were designed not to infringe upon citizens’ rights but to ensure the protection of public safety and national assets.
While acknowledging the constitutional right to peaceful assembly and freedom of association, the Corps reminded citizens that exercising caution and restraint is crucial, particularly in situations where courts have restricted gatherings.
“The Corps recognizes the rights of citizens to meaningful assembly; however, adherence to the law is essential. Our duty is to maintain peace, prevent vandalism, and protect critical national infrastructure,” Afolabi added.
Monday’s protest was met with a swift and coordinated response. NSCDC personnel positioned at strategic points ensured the protesters could not access sensitive areas within the headquarters.
This operation showcased the effectiveness of the NSCDC security measures, demonstrating that proactive planning and intelligence deployment can successfully mitigate risks associated with unauthorized gatherings.
Prof. Ahmed Audi reaffirmed the Corps’ commitment to its constitutional duties. “Our mandate obliges us to protect lives, property, and the integrity of national assets.
“Any attempt to disrupt this mandate will be countered with the full enforcement of NSCDC security measures,” Audi stated.
The Corps also highlighted that lessons from previous incidents of unrest and vandalism informed current strategies.
By combining intelligence analysis, rapid response teams, and preventive deployments, NSCDC security measures ensure that threats are addressed before escalating into crises.
This approach not only safeguards national infrastructure but also reinforces public confidence in security institutions.
Additionally, the NSCDC has launched public awareness campaigns reminding citizens about the legal and safety implications of unauthorized invasions of government premises.
Afolabi emphasized that these campaigns educate the public on balancing constitutional rights with the need to respect national security.
The Monday incident at the NSCDC National Headquarters underscores the critical role of vigilance, intelligence, and robust security protocols.
The NSCDC security measures implemented during the protest reflect the Corps’ unwavering commitment to protecting citizens and national assets.
Through proactive planning, intelligence-driven operations, and community engagement, the Corps demonstrates that law and order can be maintained during public demonstrations without infringing on constitutional freedoms.
The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps remains steadfast in its resolve: any attempt to disrupt peace, vandalize government property, or threaten citizens will be firmly addressed.
With ongoing implementation of NSCDC security measures, the Corps continues to uphold national safety, safeguarding lives, property, and critical infrastructure.
