Rivers PDP alleges Governor Fubara betrayed the party and people, citing broken agreements with Tinubu and defection to APC amid political crisis.
The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (Rivers PDP) has accused Governor Siminalayi Fubara of betraying both the party and the people of the state during a period of severe political unrest.

According to the factional Caretaker Chairman of the party, Dr Nname Ewor, Fubara’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has worsened an already fragile situation in Rivers, leaving the electorate and party members confused and disenfranchised.
Ewor spoke at a press conference in Port Harcourt on Thursday, describing the governor’s recent political maneuvers as a direct violation of trust.
He said the Rivers PDP had invested in a peace agreement with Fubara, negotiated with the intervention of President Bola Tinubu, aimed at stabilizing the state during its ongoing political crisis.
“The mandate Fubara holds was freely given to him by the people of Rivers, and every decision he takes impacts the electorate,” Ewor said.
“It is crucial at this time for him to disclose the terms of the peace agreement he entered with President Tinubu before the emergency rule was lifted so Rivers people can make informed decisions about their leadership.”
The Rivers PDP recalled that the political conflict between Governor Fubara and members of the State House of Assembly began less than a year after he assumed office.
The standoff, according to Ewor, created an unstable political climate in the state and threatened governance.
It became so critical that President Tinubu had to personally intervene to broker a peace settlement.
As part of the agreement, the Rivers PDP claims, Fubara was expected not to pursue a second term in office.
The governor was also allegedly required to reinstate Chief Ohna Awuse as Chairman of the Rivers State Traditional Rulers Council.
Additional stipulations reportedly included the removal of Tammy Danagogo as Secretary to the State Government and Edison Ehie as Chief of Staff.
Ewor alleged that Fubara failed to comply with the majority of these commitments, causing the collapse of the peace agreement.
This breakdown, he said, prompted President Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State—a measure intended to restore political stability and protect the electorate’s mandate.
According to the Rivers PDP chairman, Fubara entered another understanding with President Tinubu shortly before the emergency rule was lifted.
This new agreement, Ewor claimed, laid the groundwork for the governor’s defection to the APC.
“It is clear that Fubara prioritized personal ambition over the collective interest of Rivers PDP and the people of the state,” he said.
Ewor further alleged that, following his defection, Fubara boasted publicly that Tinubu would compel the Rivers State House of Assembly to approve the 2026 budget.
The governor, Ewor said, also claimed that Tinubu would ensure the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, supported his bid for reelection, despite widespread public opposition.
The Rivers PDP chairman urged Governor Fubara to disclose the precise details of these agreements to the people.
“The Rivers electorate deserves transparency regarding any arrangement that affects the state’s governance and their mandate,” Ewor stated.
“Silence at this stage is a disservice to the people who entrusted him with leadership.”
The Rivers PDP has previously challenged the state of emergency declaration in the Supreme Court, arguing that it was necessary to protect its mandate.
Ewor lamented that the governor’s defection to the APC represents a violation of that mandate.
“Today, Fubara has transferred a mandate given by Rivers people to the APC, which is fundamentally unjust,” he said.
Ewor also accused Fubara of misleading party members regarding the PDP convention in Ibadan.
He alleged that the governor encouraged delegates to attend the convention while he himself remained absent, a matter that is currently before the courts.
These actions, Ewor said, further erode trust in the governor’s leadership and underscore the political crisis currently engulfing Rivers.
In conclusion, Ewor revealed that he has fully aligned with Nyesom Wike’s calls for President Tinubu’s reelection in 2027.
He emphasized that Rivers PDP members must remain committed to protecting the interests of the people and ensuring that political crises do not undermine governance or democratic principles in the state.
The ongoing political crisis in Rivers, marked by Fubara’s defection and alleged broken agreements, highlights the fragile nature of party politics in the state.
As the situation unfolds, Rivers PDP insists that accountability and transparency remain the cornerstone of governance, and that any deviation from these principles, such as Fubara’s actions, should be subject to public scrutiny.
With Rivers PDP calling for clarity from Fubara on his agreements with President Tinubu, the state’s political future remains uncertain.
The coming months are likely to determine whether stability can be restored or if the political crisis will deepen further, with consequences for governance and public confidence in elected officials.
