Army 2-Division: “Always project positivity” – Maj. Gen. Nnebeife charges newsmen.

Army 2-Division charges newsmen to project positivity as Maj. Gen. Chinedu Nnebeife strengthens military-media partnership in Ibadan to boost national unity and security efforts.

The General Officer Commanding, GOC, 2-Division, Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 3, Operation Fansan Yama, Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, has called on journalists to play a more constructive role in national development through responsible and patriotic reporting.

He made this call during a media parley with journalists in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, organised to round off the 2025 military-media engagement within the Division’s Area of Responsibility.

The event brought together senior military officers and members of the press in an atmosphere of mutual respect and collaboration, reflecting the Nigerian Army’s recognition of the strategic role of the media in shaping public perception, promoting national unity, and supporting security operations across the country.

Major General Nnebeife stressed that the media remains a critical partner in nation-building, noting that balanced and positive reportage contributes significantly to public confidence in the armed forces and national institutions.

According to him, while challenges exist, it is important for journalists to highlight progress, sacrifices, and successes recorded by the military in safeguarding lives and property.

Military media partnership and national responsibility

Speaking at the parley, the GOC explained that the essence of the engagement was to further strengthen the cordial relationship between the Nigerian Army and the media.

He stated that effective communication between both institutions is essential for operational success, particularly in the ongoing fight against insecurity.

He reiterated that Army 2-Division charges newsmen to project positivity not as a call for propaganda, but as a patriotic appeal for fair, factual, and development-oriented journalism.

He emphasized that responsible reporting helps prevent misinformation, panic, and distrust, especially in times of security challenges.

Major General Nnebeife noted that journalists serve as a bridge between the military and the civilian population, and their reports influence how communities perceive security operations.

He therefore urged media practitioners to verify information, avoid sensationalism, and consider the broader national interest in their reportage.

Appreciation for media support and professionalism

The GOC commended journalists within and beyond the Division’s Area of Responsibility for their professionalism and dedication to duty.

He acknowledged the media’s consistent efforts in reporting the activities of 2 Division, particularly in highlighting achievements, community engagements, and operational milestones.

According to him, the Nigerian Army does not take this support for granted, as it contributes immensely to morale among officers and soldiers.

He noted that positive and accurate reporting reassures the public and motivates troops who continue to make sacrifices in difficult and often dangerous environments.

Reaffirming his commitment to openness, Major General Nnebeife assured journalists of the Division’s willingness to continue engaging the media, providing timely information, and fostering transparency in its operations.

Leadership of the Chief of Army Staff

During his address, the GOC paid glowing tribute to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for his exemplary leadership and people-centred approach to command.

He highlighted the COAS’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of officers and soldiers, describing it as a key factor in enhancing operational effectiveness across formations.

Major General Nnebeife explained that improved welfare, training, and logistics have significantly boosted morale and professionalism within the ranks.

He stressed that when troops are well motivated and supported, they are better equipped to carry out their constitutional responsibilities.

He noted that the leadership style of the COAS aligns with the Nigerian Army’s broader objective of building a combat-ready, disciplined, and citizen-friendly force capable of addressing evolving security threats.

Security operations and restoration of normalcy

Reflecting on recent security challenges, the GOC referenced the disturbances experienced in parts of Kwara State some months ago.

He expressed satisfaction with the restoration of peace and normalcy following the timely and coordinated intervention of the military in collaboration with other security agencies.

He stated that the success recorded in the area was a testament to effective planning, intelligence-driven operations, and cooperation from local communities.

He further emphasized that security is a collective responsibility, requiring the support of traditional institutions, community leaders, and the media.

In his words, Army 2-Division charges newsmen to project positivity also because positive narratives encourage community cooperation, intelligence sharing, and trust, all of which are critical in sustaining peace and preventing a resurgence of criminal activities.

Community cooperation and collective effort

Major General Nnebeife stressed that the fight against insecurity cannot be won by the military alone. He called on all stakeholders to work together to identify and eliminate criminal elements within society.

He emphasized the importance of community vigilance, timely reporting of suspicious activities, and support for security agencies.

According to him, when communities and the military work hand in hand, it becomes easier to isolate and deal with “bad eggs” who threaten peace and stability.

The GOC reiterated that the Nigerian Army belongs to all Nigerians and exists solely to protect the nation’s sovereignty and the wellbeing of its citizens, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.

Commitment of officers and soldiers

Expressing satisfaction with personnel under his command, Major General Nnebeife praised the officers and soldiers of 2 Division for their dedication, resilience, and professionalism.

He acknowledged the sacrifices they continue to make in the discharge of their duties, often under challenging conditions.

“I am happy with the officers and soldiers within the 2 Division,” he said, reaffirming his confidence in their ability to deliver on assigned tasks. He assured that the Division would remain vigilant and proactive in securing its entire Area of Responsibility.

He added that the Nigerian Army would continue to adapt its strategies to meet emerging security challenges while upholding human rights, professionalism, and respect for civil authority.
Media parley attendance and significance

The media parley was attended by top Army officers within the Division, underscoring the importance the Nigerian Army places on media engagement and civil-military relations.

The presence of senior officers also provided journalists with the opportunity to interact directly with military leadership, ask questions, and gain deeper insight into ongoing operations.

The event further reinforced mutual understanding and trust, setting the tone for sustained collaboration in the coming year. Participants described the engagement as timely, constructive, and reflective of a shared commitment to national peace and development.

As the year draws to a close, Army 2-Division charges newsmen to project positivity stands as a reminder of the media’s power to influence narratives, inspire unity, and support national security efforts.

The call by Major General Chinedu Nnebeife underscores the belief that when the military and media work together responsibly, Nigeria stands stronger in its quest for peace, stability, and progress.
