The Osun State Local Government election was marred by controversy and low turnout, with the state’s Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC) facing criticism for its handling of the polls. Despite warnings from the police and the Attorney General of the Federation to postpone the election due to a subsisting court judgment, OSSIEC proceeded with the election, which was characterized by the absence of electoral officials and materials at many polling centers.

Governor Ademola Adeleke, who had rejected calls to cancel the election, described the process as peaceful and commended President Bola Tinubu for supporting the rule of law.

However, the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) dismissed the election as a “charade” and accused OSSIEC of conducting a “sham” election.

The election was marked by low turnout, with many residents choosing to stay at home rather than participate in the polls. In some areas, there were no electoral officials or materials available, leading to frustration among prospective voters.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ultimately swept all 30 local government areas, although the election’s legitimacy has been questioned by opposition parties and observers.

Former APC National Secretary Senator Iyiola Omisore criticized Governor Adeleke for conducting the election, accusing him of causing chaos and violating the court judgment. Omisore warned that the governor’s actions could lead to a breakdown of law and order in the state.
