A gasoline tanker explosion that shook Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, has left at least five persons dead and destroyed numerous properties, including two banks.
Sunday afternoon saw the horrific event along Old Asaba-Lagos Road, which left a path of damage and casualties in its wake.
The fire destroyed property valued at millions of dollars.
According to sources, the explosion occurred when a gasoline truck capsized during a turn close to Agbor’s First Bank.
An eyewitness described how the driver attempted to turn at the old Lagos/Asaba road, causing the gasoline tanker to fall beyond the First Bank in Agbor.
The situation was chaotic and terrible, he said. The news was upsetting as I rushed to the scene to learn more.
Five verified deaths occurred while two banks and other property were still on fire.
The witness also expressed regret at the lack of emergency reaction personnel.
Firefighters have not yet arrived at the scene, and as I speak to you, the fire is still raging.
