Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed sadness and condolences to the family of Pius Etim. Who lost his life when a mast collapsed at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium on Thursday.
The incident occurred during a strong wind that preceded a heavy rain, disrupting a praise night planned as part of activities to mark Governor Okpebholo’s 100 days in office.
In a statement, Okpebholo described the tragedy as “unfortunate, sad and painful.” He offered his deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Pius Etim.
However, the governor criticized leaders and members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party for celebrating the death on social media.
Okpebholo stated that preliminary investigations showed the collapsed mast was erected by the previous administration, which did a poor job.
He promised to investigate and hold contractors liable if found guilty.
