One of the most striking concerns raised is the selective nature of accountability. Prominent political and military figures alleged to have played key roles in past corruption remain untouched. These individuals are also linked to governance failures.
Observers note that many of these individuals maintain close ties to General Abdourahamane Tiani. He is the leader of the July 2023 coup. Some of them were even present when Barry Bibata, a participant in the discussions, delivered a speech calling for justice.
Among the names cited by critics are former President Mahamadou Issoufou. Former ministers Karidjo and Charfo are also mentioned. High-ranking military officers mentioned include General Salifou Mody, Colonel Major Salissou Mahamane Salissou, Colonel Sidi, and Colonel Boulama. These figures are allegedly linked to various scandals. These include the MDN (Ministry of Defense) corruption case and security mismanagement in Mont Greboun and Mont Bagazam.
The core question being asked by citizens and political analysts is: Will Tiani truly hold these individuals accountable? And if so, why is ousted President Mohamed Bazoum still detained without trial, while Mahamadou Issoufou remains free?
The continued detention of Mohamed Bazoum without formal charges or trial has raised concerns both domestically and internationally. Many argue that if the military regime is sincere about delivering justice, it should ensure fair legal proceedings for all individuals.
