Former Nigerian military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, has denied any involvement in the assassination of journalist Dele Giwa, who was killed by a parcel bomb in 1986.
Babangida made this statement in his autobiography, “A Journey in Service,” which was presented in Abuja on Thursday. He expressed hope that the truth behind Giwa’s murder would be uncovered someday.
Giwa, a vocal critic of Babangida’s military government, was accused of illegally importing arms and ammunition just days before his death.
However, Babangida claims that the investigation into Giwa’s murder was hindered by the media’s adversarial attitude towards the government.
The event was attended by prominent figures, including President Bola Tinubu, former presidents, and captains of industry. Babangida also launched his presidential library at the occasion.
