Police Sergeant faces charges for shooting his wife on Valentine’s Day.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) Sergeant Ngudumane Hamlet Mahlalela made his appearance before the Protea Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, February 20, for the murder of his wife.
Mahlalela is a member of the SAPS. A fatal shooting occurred on February 14, 2025, at the residence of Mahlalela and his wife, Jane Mashudu Mahlalela, who was also a member of the South African Police Service (SAPS).
It is stated that members of the family overheard the accused argue with her about the fact that she had not slept at home the previous night, and that they later heard a gunshot.
Together with a child who was under the age of 18, the accused vanished from the scene.
While the underage boy was discovered at his aunt’s residence, he remained on the run until he turned himself in to the Moroka South African Police Service on February 18, 2025.
A formal hearing on the application for bail has been scheduled for the 25th of February, 2025.
