Police Officer, Complainant Arrested Over Newlywed’s Death in Custody

The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation into the alleged torture and death of Abdulmujid Oduga, a newlywed man, while in police custody at Ikota Police Post in the Ajah area.

According to the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, the Investigating Police Officer and the complainant are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of Oduga’s death.

Oduga was arrested on February 11 following a misunderstanding with his female neighbor. He was detained at the Ikota Police Post, where he allegedly suffered severe torture, resulting in his death.

Relatives of the deceased have taken to social media to demand justice, alleging that Oduga was murdered by the police. They claim that the police dumped his corpse at a morgue in the Epe area without allowing him to contact his family while in custody.

The police have assured the public that a thorough investigation will be conducted, and anyone found culpable will be dealt with according to the law.
