OSUN LG CRISIS: Police Hunt for Murderers

On Tuesday, the Osun State Police Command launched a manhunt to find the perpetrators of the violence that broke out throughout the state and claimed several lives.

The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission denied rumors that military soldiers had sealed off its office, stating that Saturday’s local government poll would go forward as planned.

Supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party opposed the ousted local government chairmen and council members’ demand to return to their council positions, which caused turmoil in Osun State on Monday.

The APC members filed a motion on Monday to uphold the Court of Appeal, Akure Division’s ruling, which reversed their dismissal due to the Osogbo Federal High Court’s November 25, 2022, ruling.

In contrast, PDP members congregated in huge numbers at the council secretariats and engaged in combat with APC members, resulting in six fatalities and property damage in numerous local government districts around the state.

Following the political turmoil that swept the state, the police reported six casualties.

Yemisi Opalola, the command’s spokesperson, offered condolences to families who lost loved ones and property in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Opalola, Mohammed Abba, the Commissioner of Police, pledged to carry out a comprehensive investigation in order to apprehend the offenders and subject them to the full force of the law.

“The event left six people dead and many people hospitalized.

“We are not happy with what happened yesterday, and various groups have been called for a meeting. We have held a series of meetings with the Commissioner of Police to ensure that this does not happen.

“We won’t allow anyone to disrupt the peace of our state. The IGP has deployed mobile policemen from outside the state to Osun, they arrived yesterday night.

“The command will leave no stone unturned to achieve peace. Let us give peace a chance.
