Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the governor of Ondo State, swore in the newly elected chairmen of the state’s 18 local government units on Monday and urged them to get started right away.

At the ceremony, which took place at the International Centre For Culture and Events (The Dome) in the state capital of Akure, Aiyedatiwa gave the new chairpersons the responsibility of ensuring cooperation and coordination with the legislative councils and career public servants in the performance of their duties.

He also reminded them of their responsibility to the people.

Aiyedatiwa said, “We have a collective duty to ensure their survival. At all times, they must enjoy mutual trust and inclusivity from the parent local governments.

“As servant-leaders, you must be prepared to innovate and be driven by a passion for the welfare and prosperity of our people. You must be deliberate about the development of your local government areas.

“It is a fundamental constitutional procedure which imposes on you the burden of leadership, selfless service, altruism and a sacred responsibility to deliver on the manifesto of our Party, including your campaign promises to improve their lives.

“It is never a privilege for personal gains or self-aggrandizement but a commitment to serve the people who had freely surrendered their sovereign will to you. This social contract should be inviolable.”
