On Monday, a truck that was transporting wood and jerrycans of palm oil lost control and crashed into a shuttle bus that was carrying students from Federal University Lokoja (FUL), which is located in Kogi State.
According to reports, the incident, which took place at approximately 2:30 p.m., resulted in seven students and the bus driver being thought dead.
The driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with the school shuttle bus, which was loaded with students and was on its way to transport them to school. The shuttle bus was smashed to pieces by the truck.
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) dispatched officers to the scene in order to rescue people who were pinned beneath the vehicle.
The Kogi State Sector Commandant of the Federal Road Safety Commission, Samuel Oyedeji, who led his team to the accident site, was unable to confirm the precise number of casualties.
He claimed that the deceased had been placed in the morgue for identification, and that those who had been injured had been transported to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Lokoja as well as the Kogi State Specialist Hospital for medical treatment.
