In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), two men were slain by an enraged mob on the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Expressway after they were suspected of robbing a woman and hurling her from their moving car.

The crime occurred on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at approximately 3 p.m.

The suspects were suspected of robbing a woman who was traveling from the Gosa area to the city while driving a commercial vehicle.

The woman was pushed out of the car by the suspects after they had disposed of her belongings, according to an eyewitness.

“The car behind them nearly ran over the woman, but thank God, the driver managed to stop just in time. That same driver then started chasing the robbers while honking to alert other road users.

“As the pursuit went on, more drivers and bystanders joined in, and when they attempted to make a U-turn back toward Gosa at ACO Estate Junction, another motorist blocked their path, ending their escape attempt. The suspects immediately tried to escape on foot after abandoning their car, but they were soon overpowered by the encroaching crowd.

“The first suspect to be apprehended was violently assaulted and then set on fire. Many people believed the second suspect was dead since he was flung into a roadside gutter and stayed there without moving.

“I went closer and saw that he was just sitting in the gutter. I started recording again, and people were asking him questions. They asked for his name, but he refused to say. When they asked where he was from, he said Ogun State. They also asked if he was Yoruba, and he confirmed it.

“While the interrogation continued, members of the mob who had initially assumed he was dead began gathering again. Within moments, the aggression resumed. They started coming back, one by one. Then they poured fuel on him, intending to set him on fire like they did with the other one.

The suspect made an attempt to flee. He may have been looking for safety when he stumbled out of the gutter and ran toward Foundation of Truth Assembly (FOTA), a neighboring church.

Because they had severely beaten him previously, he was extremely weak. Someone yelled that they shouldn’t kill him at the church as he got closer. Thus, they dragged him to a different nearby property from the church grounds.

The crowd persisted in their attack, throwing stones at him until he passed aw.
