The state police public relations officer, Shi’isu Adam, confirmed the incident and said an investigation was underway after a bride in Jigawa State allegedly poisoned food served at the reception, leaving the groom critically ill and one of the wedding guests dead.
The incident took place in the state’s Jahun Local Government Area, and witnesses speculated that the bride’s actions might have been motivated by a personal grudge.
“We received a report that the bride had tainted the food served at the wedding reception, leaving the groom critically ill,” he told PUNCH Online.
Adam stated, “Two suspects have been taken into custody by police in relation to the purported food poisoning incident that took place during a wedding ceremony in the state.”
He disclosed that the two suspects are the bride and another woman, and that the command’s Criminal Investigation Department is currently holding and questioning them.
“We will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served,” the police spokeswoman continued.
With the exception of the one confirmed death, all of the wedding guests who ate the tainted food have been released from the hospital, according to the police spokesperson.
We will share more information as soon as we have it. The command is now looking into the circumstances surrounding the occurrence.
At this time, we can confirm that the incident happened, and we are working diligently to find out the truth. He said, “We implore the public to maintain composure and trust that justice will be done.”
