Five hundred trucks that run on compressed natural gas (CNG) have been acquired by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).
Six CNG stations in Lagos and Abuja have already been put into service by the state-owned company.
This was revealed by Mrs. Henrietta Ogun of NNPC Retail Operations at a workshop NNPC/Engagement session with a few Kannywood Artistes in Abuja. Her presentation was headed “A focus on NNPC Operations.”
“I was just talking about CNG. As you are aware, NNPC still commissioned six CNG stations in Abuja sometime last year. And recently, just last week, 6 stations in Lagos also just commissioned.
“And also just to mention that we just purchased 500 CNG powered trucks, which we are going to start using this year. Most of them have just arrived in the country.”
NNPCL, which has 950 retail locations around the country, has installed eight EV charging stations for bikes and plans to install more for cars in the future, she disclosed.
Additionally, NNPCL has terminals and a jetty with 40,000 MT at the time. She said that the business will be revealing their petrol cylinders at some point next week.
She stated that the company would shortly release a retail app this year that would allow users to track the amount of fuel available at petrol stations.
“The retail app, very soon we will be launching an NNPC retail app. This app, you can download it on your phone. That will launch this year. You can sit down wherever you are. If you find out that your fuel has reduced in your tank or you want to buy fuel.
“Even when you don’t know the stations around you. Inside the app, you will be able to see the closest NNPC station around you.
“You will be able to choose which one you want to buy from. You will be able to place an order. You will be able to pay for the product.”
