It has been reported that Canadian tourist Nathalie Ross lost both of her hands in a shark attack while attempting to take a picture of the beast.
Around 10:30 a.m. on February 7, the incident happened in the shallow seas off Thompson’s Cove Beach in the Caribbean’s Turks and Caicos Islands.
The shark’s species has not yet been determined, but the Turks & Caicos Islands Government said in a statement cited by the Miami Herald indicated it was about six feet long.
According to the authorities, Ross had tried to approach the shark from the shallows to take pictures prior to the attack.
Reports state that before Ross was taken to shore, her husband tried to repel the shark.
In addition to losing both hands, Ross also suffered a bite wound on her thigh, according to local media outlet Magnetic Media. After being taken to a hospital for immediate medical attention, she is anticipated to live.
After discovering that the shark had migrated into deeper waters, authorities temporarily closed Thompson’s Cove Beach until noon on February 9.
