The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) is set to develop an updated criminal database, announced Acting Comptroller-General Sylvester Ndidi. This initiative aims to create a comprehensive record of offenders and their respective offenses, enhancing the correctional system’s efficiency.

Ndidi revealed the plans during a meeting with Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, where he also discussed the NCS’s ongoing rehabilitation and reformation efforts. The goal is to transform correctional facilities into rehabilitation centers, focusing on reform rather than confinement.

The updated database will improve record-keeping, track offenders effectively, and bolster the criminal justice system. The Inspector-General of Police pledged his commitment to collaborating with the NCS, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in preventing crime and enhancing the justice system.

The meeting highlighted the shared vision of both agencies to strengthen the criminal justice system, with a focus on efficient crime prevention and cooperation.
