From Friday through Sunday, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted haziness throughout the nation. NiMet forecasted significant dust haze over the North and North Central regions on Friday in its weather outlook, which was issued in Abuja on Thursday, February 13.

Additionally, the agency said that during the projected period, areas of Zamfara, Kano, Katsina, Yobe, Kaduna, Borno, and Jigawa are expected to experience thick dust haze, which would result in visibility of less than or equal to 1000 meters.

NiMet predicts cloudy skies with sporadic sunny spells for southern Nigeria, with the potential for isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, especially over areas of Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Rivers.

It is predicted that on Saturday, February 15, there will be moderate dust haze over the Northern region for the duration of the day, a slight dust haze over the North Central region in the morning and later in the afternoon/evening, cloudy skies with some sunshine, and thunderstorms over the states of Delta, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Cross River.

NiMet predicts cloudy skies with brief sunny intervals on Sunday, February 16.

Later in the day, isolated thunderstorms are expected across portions of Lagos, Ondo, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

Because particles are suspended in the atmosphere, NiMet has also cautioned the public to adopt the appropriate safety measures.

Because of the weather, the organization specifically advised those who have respiratory disorders, such asthma, to exercise caution.

In order to properly plan their operations, the agency also advised aircraft operators to get weather information tailored to their airports from NiMet.
