Just two days before the LG elections, 11 of the 12 council members in Katsina State’s Malumfashi local government area decided to remove Maharazu Dayi as the council’s chairman, escalating political tension in the area.
The council members took action in what many saw as a last-minute political altercation with the chairman, citing accusations of wrongdoing and bad leadership.
A source claims that a dispute over the allocation of the council’s Paris Club funding led to the removal of the chairman.
Since the impeached chairman is one of the people who did not receive the All-Progressive Congress (APC) ticket to run in the upcoming election, the impeachment has caused a stir in the LGA.
