Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, stated on Monday that the Federal Government is establishing a Diaspora City to encourage Nigerians living abroad to invest and reconnect with their roots.

Musawa said this in Abuja during the launch of the Motherland 2025 program.

She stated that the ministry was not just dedicated to rethinking tourism, but also to establishing platforms for economic growth, cultural interaction, and community development.

“Our vision extends beyond attracting global visitors; it is about ensuring that the creative and tourism sectors serve as critical tools to improve the lives of the Nigerian people,” she told the audience.

The minister emphasised that Motherland 2025 is more than just a festival — it is an initiative reaffirming Nigeria’s position as the epicentre of global Black and African culture, commerce, and community.

“This year, we invite the global diaspora to immerse themselves in our rich traditions, seek investment opportunities, and experience the extraordinary transformation taking place across our country.

“The Motherland Festival is a fully immersive experience that celebrates Nigeria’s vibrancy, creativity, and economic potential.

“We promote the best of Nigeria through state pavilions, exhibitions, and cultural displays, including our innovation, business landscape, and cultural legacy from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The Motherland Ambassador Awards will recognize outstanding citizens of the diaspora who have made substantial contributions in their disciplines.

“However, Motherland 2025 is more than just a snapshot in time. It serves as a catalyst for long-term involvement, connecting the diaspora to their home country, investors to possibilities, and global travelers to Nigeria’s diverse experiences.

As part of the project’s long-term components, we are creating Diaspora City, a vibrant tourism destination where diaspora members may effortlessly invest, reunite, and establish roots.

Chidinma Nwakwo, Managing Director of Discover Motherland Africa, also spoke at the event, describing the initiative’s launch as the start of a transformative movement that not only reconnects Nigerians in the diaspora with their roots, but also opens up investment opportunities and fosters cultural pride.
