Nigerian police have been called out by a strategist named Deji Teye, also known as mydeji247 on X, for holding his brother captive on suspicion of kidnapping his own daughter for more than seven days and demanding the daughter as ransom.
In a previous tweet, Deji Teye stated that the Nigerian Police Force, led by IGP Kayode Egbetokun, needed to examine itself closely. People are being driven to the verge of radicalisation by the unfettered abuse of citizens’ rights by officers, which has escalated to an unacceptable degree.
He said his brother had been denied bail after being abducted by the police in Lagos and transferred against his will to Osogbo. What was his offence? having a daughter of his own.
He wrote, “The mother of his child left for the U.S. eight years ago, overstayed her visa, and became an illegal immigrant. Since then, my brother has been the primary caregiver of their daughter. Out of respect and fairness, he allowed her to visit her maternal grandmother so they could bond.
“When he picked her up for Christmas and brought her to Kaduna, the child decided she did not want to return because the 66 year old Woman lived ALONE with her 86 year old husband and it was boring. So He enrolled her in a top school where she could thrive. That’s when the mother, from across the Atlantic, orchestrated a false accusation, weaponizing the police to do her bidding.
“Now, the Nigerian Police—our so-called defenders of justice—have detained him on laughable charges of kidnapping his own child. They even want to drag a young girl 800 kilometers back to Osogbo, causing trauma, disrupting her education and mental stability.
“This is the kind of institutionalized INJUSTICE that fuels insurgency, irredentism, and, ultimately, chaos.
“How can citizens respect a government that terrorizes fathers for loving their children? How does a Police Force justify jailing an innocent man while real criminals roam free? I am outraged.
He added, “You should be too. If we continue to remain silent, who’s next?
His most recent post on X, however, discloses that Teye’s brother has remained in police detention ever since, and that the authorities are requesting his daughter.
“The Nigerian Police has continued to hold my brother in captivity for 7 days now. They are asking for his daughter as ransom,
“He is being held for no reason at the Anti-Vice Unit, Area Command, OkeFia in Osogbo, Osun State.
“I am speaking up now and nobody is listening. I want to warn the Nigerian Police Force, that if anything happens to my only brother, there will be dire consequences.
“I will fight till I breath my last. I don’t mind losing my life,” he added.
