The Cross River State Police Command has begun enforcing third-party automobile insurance plans in all 18 of the state’s local governments.

According to a news statement issued Friday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, the enforcement began on February 1, 2025, in accordance with an order from Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Grimah, underlined the need of acquiring genuine third-party insurance from certified insurance carriers approved by the National Insurance Commission.

He indicated that “the policy is crucial for facilitating the safety of innocent third parties in the event of an accident, and ensuring financial recovery for damages, injuries, and loss of life.”

“The CP advised car owners who did not have insurance to obtain it as soon as possible to avoid any legal consequences.

“The Commissioner also warned officers involved in the enforcement process to uphold professionalism and avoid any form of rights abuse or extortion, stressing that any officer found violating the standards would face severe disciplinary actions” .
